McMahon wrote today in his blog that five programs have committed for a new league - the assumption is some are current NE-10 members which are D-II and will soon make the jump to D-1. This likely includes Stonehill, Utica, & Long Island. Would be big news as it would remove an at-large bid from the tournament.

They're only budgeting $2.7 million for professional services, which is far too low to get to a final design. You can expect the final cost of that to be around 10% of construction costs, probably higher. Given that Penn State and Arizona State built their barns between $100-$110 million, I would expect Ohio State is willing to spend around that much too.

Is there some fund the board of trustees doesn't control?

It'll be interesting to see what happens to construction timelines in that area over the next couple years. Competing with Intel for materials is going to make things even crazier than they are now.

Some OSU guys on USCHO said the new rink will be for the women with the men using it for practice. Mens games will still be at the Schott.

That’s disappointing, if true.

Yes, the women absolutely deserve a new arena. They have a great program that deserves much better than the old Ice Rink they play at now.

But man… that men’s program playing in the Schott is ridiculous. The building is cavernous. There’s zero atmosphere. It feels like an NHL building, but it’s always three quarters empty. They could do so much better.

This week the boys did some charity related activities. There's a photo of Emerson in a boot with one of those bike thingee devices (I'm old, in my day all we had were crutches so I don't know what the newfangled thing is called). Looks like that puck to the foot is serious, hopefully the bye week helps with healing and he's ready for Northern.

There's also a photo of Rose with one crutch. Looks like it was the freshman class, with a few upperclassmen and Stavros sprinkled in.

Losing Emerson for the rest of the year would be brutal. He's been excellent as a freshman.

But really, par for the course this year. We didn't have Fyten all year until late January. Eric Parker has played in 8 games and has been out since like late October. And then Rose has missed basically the entire season for the second year in a row, playing only 5 games.

It's hurt our forward depth, our defensive depth, and our goaltending depth. Brutal injury luck this year, in a season where the CCHA felt like it could have been ours for the taking if we stayed healthy and had the ability to play consistent hockey.

Blake is out with a broken hand, may have already had surgery.
Blake, Emerson, Rose and Parker all done for the year.

Northern beats Ferris 9-2 tonight? WTF?

Bemidji loses 1-4.

If Bemidji wins out: 43 pts
If Ferris wins out: 42 pts

We sit at 41 right now.

It was a good night for us.

Does this mean the following?

If one of them loses in regulation tonight, we clinch home ice. If they both lose in regulation tonight, we clinch home ice and the 3 seed?

That is basically correct. Ferris can lose in OT and we'd still clinch home ice. Here are more words that say the same thing:

1) In baseball terms, our magic number with Bemidji is 3 and with Ferris it's 2.
2) If they both win out we need to take any combination of 3 points from NMU for 3rd, 2 for home ice.

Go Mavs.

EDIT: Speaking of the Mavs, they have 9 points remaining and need 6 to win the MacNaughton outright. Tech will have to sweep in Mankato.

NMU beat Ferris 8-3 tonight and scored 17 goals on the weekend.

I believe that officially clinched us home ice in the first round of the CCHA playoffs.

Mankato and Bemidji tied 1-1 after 2 periods.
