BG at Miami...
Michael Huger 63-79 in MAC play, looks to avoid his 80th loss in MAC play in less than 8 full seasons. Meanwhile, Bob Moosbrugger attempts to find employment without a masters degree.

Surely his buddy, Kit Hughes, has a spot for him...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: BG at Miami...
Hughes got everything he wanted from Moosbrugger and BGSU. BGSU gets to reap the results of Hughes involvement that started with a hiring of Mike Jinks. Mike Jinks, Chris Jans, Michael Huger, Scot Loeffler and all the buyouts and dumpster fires since and to come. A pioneer of incompetence.
Re: BG at Miami...
Still can’t believe they are bringing back Loeffler. If they bring back Huger….that would be something. From what I’ve heard they are trying to solicit some help for a buyout, but aren’t getting a lot of response. There is some question as to if Frack money can be used for a buyout.
Maybe they’ll make baseball alumni raise more money to pay for it?

Re: BG at Miami...
This is what happens when you've let a program wallow in the mud for 2-3 decades. Let Dakich coach it out, let Orr coach it out, now 8 yrs of Huger. Most BGSU sports fans are simply apathetic about the program and the handful of us still caring enough to be upset don't have that kind of cash. The big donors have started to pass away and there is no next wave.TommyG wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 11:25 am Still can’t believe they are bringing back Loeffler. I've heard similar in regards to Huger. I don't think it's near 100% he is fired. Although, he is doing everything possible as a coach to make it happen. Only BGSU could hand out extensions during Covid like masks, then need to solicit the funds to remedy those extensions.TommyG wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 11:25 am Still can’t believe they are bringing back Loeffler. Re: BG at Miami...
The people I talked to actually expect him to be back. That could change if someone steps up, but sounds like they are trying to get somewhere around 500K to basically pay for one of the buyout years. Obviously that doesn’t have to come from just one person…I just don’t think anyone will be willing to do that
Re: BG at Miami...
Wish Stroh left behind money to get rid of huger. Can't blame him after the frack situation but not sure who else donates big money to the program anymore
Re: BG at Miami...
If this happens and Huger stays, I will be truly embarrassed and sad for this program. It’s not a personal vendetta (I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my interactions with him), but there is zero doubt in my mind that he’s not the guy and he never will be. For the sake of BG Men’s Basketball, he has to go. We need new leadership. This program needs a change in direction. 125-122 overall and 63-79 in the MAC across nearly 8 full years is just insanely bad for how much we spend on this program. 55 years and counting since our last NCAA tournament appearance.TommyG wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 12:48 pm The people I talked to actually expect him to be back. I want to start attending games at the Stroh again. But I can’t bring myself to give this program a single dollar until they change their ways.

Re: BG at Miami...
The funny thing about BGSU’s men’s basketball program is that its been, relatively, a .500 program for the last 35-40 years. We’ve had six 20 win seasons since the 1982-83 season. Through that time, most traditional MAC schools have had their run at the top. Men’s basketball has not been dominated over this full period by 2 or 3 programs although Kent and Akron have come close. The exceptions have really been Toledo and BG.
I guess one could say Toledo may be in the midst of something like that now, but no tournament run as of yet. And there were just like us before Kowalcyck.
Within our six 20 win seasons only 2 or 3 of them included a one seed in the tournament. One of our 1 seeds was in a year we didn’t get to 20 wins.
Obviously the athletic department has been poorly run since the mid 2000’s, but this a pretty big sample size.
For me, it begs the questions: How many of the kind of leaders that are required to win at a place like BGSU can really be drawn to NW Ohio? Is it population loss in this area that makes it harder to recruit and draw revenue? Are there incentives in place that encourage our administrators to make a creative hire? How much does money REALLY mean to all of this? Is there a cultural mentality with BGSU’s administration that keeps us at the same level in spite of a higher basketball budget?
I’m frustrated…it’s mind boggling to me, and I just wanted to see if these questions run through anyone else’s head as we deal with this lost period of men’s basketball.
We’re going to have to ride the Huger error to the bitter, meaningless end just like the two eras before it. To me, it’s more than the next coach you choose. It’s about being honest about what this program has been and trying something different.

I think there is a chance he resigns.
Re: BG at Miami...
It would be a super cool thing to do for your alma mater, but I wouldn’t blame him for not. It would require him to forfeit a ton of money and also essentially admit he failed at his alma mater. Tough for the ego.
I could maybe see him negotiating down the buyout a bit in exchange for phrasing it as a “mural parting of ways” instead of an outright firing. That seems a little more likely, in my opinion.

Re: BG at Miami...
It would be fitting that the first time BGSU concerns itself with the intent of Bill Frack gift, would be in the context that it can’t be used to fix departmental incompetence. It’s bought ALOT of shoes, been used for a crazy recruiting budget considering the recruiting (something doesn’t add up there) but certainly not to boost the schedule.
To the above point about BGSU’s mediocre history. It’s all a common theme. Unwarranted contract extensions. No standards lead to a contract extension at the first sign of success. Rinse and repeat over and over. Jans was the exception. Kingston & Hughes knew his wife was staying back a year. They saw him drinking at BGSU events. It was discussed openly months after the hire. When it came time to lead, they protected themselves. The crazy part is BGSU let the Con Man Hughes destroy another 6 years after that and Mike Jinks.
No accountability. Does your kid play a sport? Just go ahead and put him on the roster. Do you want to make money elsewhere at 4pm, despite a six figure salary and cars lined up to Rec Center trying to park? Go for it.

Re: BG at Miami...
Only way he would resign is if he had a very well paid P5 assistant position lined up in a good situation.
Even then he would only resign if he was getting the sum of all his money.
I don’t get the impression that he thinks he’s doing a bad job…more just a combination of unlucky and players not executing.
