vs. NMU (2/24-25)

Post by mbenecke »

Alright folks, the regular season finale is here. Northern Michigan (16-16-0) is coming to town for a pair, and it’s entirely possible that we find ourselves in a spot where we are seeing them again next weekend in the playoffs.

With first round home ice already clinched, the only thing our boys really have to play for is seeding - I believe we can clinch the 3-seed with 2 points this weekend OR with a Bemidji loss. I’m sure someone can clarify that below. NMU, however, is still clawing their way up the board and can finish anywhere between 4th and 7th in the league, depending on his this weekend goes. I’m sure they will be desperate to find a way to earn home ice this weekend, so they will be a tough opponent for us, no doubt.

This is the team we opened the season with all the way back in the first weekend of October, a series we split with a 6-4 win in regulation and a 4-3 loss in OT.

Friday night will be Senior Night, and Saturday evening’s contest will be Scott Hamilton Night, with a SH bobblehead being passed out to the first 400 fans in attendance. Saturday night’s game will also include the annual Sic Sic reveal.

I’ll be in the building on Saturday evening with my brother. It’ll be my first game in-person since before my son was born in January, and I’m really looking forward to it. Let me know what I should order at Pollyeyes beforehand - we’re stuffed sticks people, of course, but we’re potentially open to suggestions on toppings!

My favorite is the plain cheese without fillings, but whenever I tell people that they look at me like I'm psychotic.

This is how I always ordered them until my senior year at BG when I started getting pepperoni and onion thrown in there as well. I actually didn't even know that you COULD get toppings.

They have been running a deal for awhile now. $30 for a full order of sticks and a large pizza, 2 toppings each. It works out to be a $7 pizza.

My favorite was steak as it was like a Philly but they got rid of steak somewhat recently. Roast beef is still good but not the same in my heart. Also nothing wrong with just cheese

Got my tickets for next weekend and looking forward to it. Hoping they can build some momentum this weekend for the post season

2-1 good guys after 1. Wozny had a brain cramp on their goal but Swankler bailed him out just before the period ended.

We’re so embarrassing. 1-4-2 in our last 7 since the sweep against Bemidji. We just collapse every year at this time, like clockwork. Our only consistency is our inconsistency.

Guess I’ll be in the building to watch us get swept tomorrow night. I’m so tired of this trash year after year. Under .500 for the 2nd year in a row.

Very brutal. They were letting the obvious penalties go all night. The 2 calls on Northern were the weakest calls I have seen in a while, and should not have been called penalties in my opinion.

In good news, the Tommies gave us a gift by beating Bemidji in regulation. We're officially locked in to 3rd place.

Meh….that 3rd Northern goal was just a seeing eye puck that found the back of the net. Neither team did much of anything in the 3rd. BG had a few chances just ours hit bodies and theirs went in. Basically luck. Both teams were equally unimpressive actually.

Not sure why we want home ice. We seem to not play very well there. LOL

And yea on the ENG goal I guess you can lead block in D1 hockey now. Most obvious interference call ever…smh. I see CCHA refs are still as bad as ever.

Seems like it’ll either be Ferris or Bemidji next weekend based on how tonight went?
