GREAT win today!
Re: BG Baseball beats #16 Louisville!
Great win! Impressed with the talent on this team so far. Seems their obstacle right now is having good offense on the same day they have good pitching. As a Reds fan, this is a familiar sight.

This team is probably the most talented they’ve had in about a decade. Not sure they are ready to compete for any titles, but they are better.
Hopefully they get back to being decent. The university tried to destroy the program in 2009 by cutting 1/3rd of the teams scholarships. Then they finished the job, cutting the program in 2020. They deserve 0% of the recognition for this win.
It’s ironic that in 2009 when they cut the scholarships from baseball, Greg Christopher told the athletic staff that Football, Basketball and Hockey were expected to finish top 4 in their conferences on a yearly basis with the budget and facility upgrades they were getting from cutting scholarships from other sports. How’d that work out for BG athletics?

Without question, this is the most talented team BG has had in a long time, which is a credit to Coach Kyle Hallock, who has persevered through the unbelievable stupidity of the administration to build this roster. BGSU was fortunate to have him already on staff as pitching coach when all the chaos hit, so he was ready to step in. And step in he did, at first slowly rebuilding the team with a focus on his area of expertise -- pitching. Now the rest of the roster is being strengthened to the point that we are seeing results like this one.TommyG wrote: ↑Sat Feb 25, 2023 6:12 pm This team is probably the most talented they’ve had in about a decade. As someone who created one of the scholarships for baseball, I'm really hoping this is a breakout season for the Falcons; the type of season that will help cement the program long-term; and provide further encouragement to all those baseball alums (and others) who so generously stepped in to get the decision to eliminate the team reversed -- for at least a few more seasons. When things get re-evaluated, a successful program will go a long ways toward making sure the decision to keep baseball is permanent.
I won't lie: I felt completely betrayed by the administration when they made that decision, and some of that anger still remains. I'd like to see things stabilized long-term so I know the investment I made to honor the memory of the family member for whom I created the scholarship will go on long after I'm gone.

Yup…Baseball was back on top, but that wasn’t going to help Greg Christopher his next job. Ruining a championship level program was okay because he wanted the “revenue” sports to improve. He thought he was taking a shortcut but increasing their budgets…he was and is a loser.
He made Xavier basketball irrelevant the past half decade…went and hired a known cheater in Shawn Miller to save his job. Cheating is basically legal now and Sean Miller is a good coach, so Christopher is safe for now, but they wanted him out.

Man we've had some real s**t AD's here the last 15 years....so happy to see baseball off to a good start. Coach Hallock sends out a email newsletter about the team and I replied to it. He replied within 24 hours saying thank you and how his dream is to build a perennial power at BG. That would be so cool...to be a program like Kent State. I am jacked to see BG play a weekend series in Akron this year.
Tough day today, 14-1 loss. But a good weekend series overall.

It’s time to change all of that! Maybe some changes in personnel.
Re: BG Baseball beats #16 Louisville!
Maybe Con Man Hughes & Moosbrugger should have cut the men's sport (soccer) the MAC no longer even has a conference for. I'm not a mathematician, but it seems easier to win a conference that has 4 or 5 or 6 teams, some of which change each year. Once you become on level with Chicago St. in any sport, it might be time to reevaluate. It's wasn't all about the lack of funds, Con Man's bias was involved too.

So they were trying to rob $$$ that could go to facilities because it would benefit them more personally to place them elsewhere. Wow...that's pretty fu**ing ethicalfactman wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 6:58 pmKyle Hallock is the right guy, but he also needs some help from the university, in term of improving the facility etc. Everytime there has been a fund raising campaign that the administration is involved with, they have upset potential donors by their methods and trying to get the donations to scholarships etc because it increases their BONUS.

Well, facility upgrades are somewhat permanent. If you build a new stadium, you can't just move the stadium or easily repurpose it. However, scholarships are portable in that they would float with the team to wherever they go. Also, I'm sure there's language built into the contract that says the scholarship would go to the general athletic fund if the sport were to ever cease to exist.Flipper wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 4:55 pmSo they were trying to rob $$$ that could go to facilities because it would benefit them more personally to place them elsewhere. Yeah, it's probably tied to bonuses, but they are incentivizing the employees to raise money there because it's the easiest for them to work with.
Mind you, I have zero inside information and I'm just taking an educated guess.
ROLL ALONG!!!
Re: BG Baseball beats #16 Louisville!
I’ve talked to donors who were approached by Moosbrugger and Dan Meyer. They wanted baseball alumni to donate to the Athletic Directors discretionary fund. This was done behind Danny Schmitz’s back mind you.
It was all an attempt to
1. Take baseball donations and use the money for Football, Hockey, etc.
2. Yes they would get bonuses for money donated to certain accounts.
Some of the stuff with donations that’s been done in athletics since Christopher took over was certainly wrong morally and not done in the best interests of improving a baseball program.
