And in the season before that we went we had a 4-5 stretch...finished the regular season on a 1-4 stretch. The only reason that collapse doesn't feel worse is they righted the ship and played well in Cleveland.

Huger can't coach. His teams play their worst basketball in Feb/Mar every season. His overall MAC record is bad. In the late MAC season it's far worse. Do you realize how BAD a team has to be to lose 9 games in a row in any league? 2 games a week with classes and everything is a grind...no team brings its best every night. We've caught plenty of teams on their off nights. ANd we still lose. Most of the time we end up still losing by double digits.

This is the worst team we've had in a very long time. Dakich's final team fell apart in the MAC season as well, but put up a better OOC record (against a better OOC schedule) than this year's group. Kudo's to Michael Huger for putting together quite possibly the worst team in memory....for a team with OUR basketball track record that is saying something.

I’m not sure a good coach could get this team to compete near a championship, but I do think a decent coach could get them to be .500 or better in this conference. It’s not like there is a bunch of talent, but what talent there is doesn’t compete hard enough.
Just look at the way the team finishes around the rim…they rarely do. You have to have some tenacity to score inside, you just don’t see that from BG. They need a coach with some toughness…it’s a fine line in todays environment, but you can find a coach who can push guys to improve and compete without berating kids.

If anyone is interested Joe Reece and Duquesne play at 2pm on the USA Network. Reece is averaging 10 points and 5 rebounds on a 19-9 Duquesne team. Remember Reece and Gordon were the issue with BGSU Basketball not the coach.

HE doesn't inspire. He doesn't make changes during the season. 2nd time around we ALWAYS get our asses kicked.

This time, it started 2/3 through the first go round.

I’m all for canning him but what are the odds of the athletic department or more specifically a men’s basketball decision being made wisely? 1/10?

Sad that hiring and firings don’t even get me excited for what ifs because of track records.

I think we should give van der Merwe a fair shot. Let’s see what kind of hire he can make. He hasn’t gotten the chance yet!

Agreed. And he came from a school that puts a LOT of emphasis on basketball (men's and women's). I'm hopeful that he's not the next in line to come here and maintain status quo. And if the administration wanted status quo why pay to buyout an alum...

Fingers crossed.

Truer words have never been spoken. I absolutely despise that song. It was god awful when I was in my 20s and every cover band in every bar played it every night because they knew people singing along would overcome their lack of talent. Now that it has somehow (thanks Boston) become a staple of sporting events? Even worse. Just a terrible, terrible song. Easily the worst song of all time, afaic.

It is hilarious though that my 7 year old knows my feelings about it and happily makes sure to cover my ears for me when he hears it. LOL

I agree I’m just not very optimistic. The mismanagement of basketball funds has been quite sad since the strong opened .

BGSU has spent 15 of the last 16 seasons with either Louis Orr or Michael Huger as basketball coach. The results are totally predictable. If either was a really good coach they would have had a better job before any extension would kick in.

I absolutely loathe that song. And when I go to Germany to watch my VfL Wolfburg soccer team, what do they play at the end of the match if they win in the Volkswagen Arena???? Yep. I can't get away from it. But the people in Wolfsburg love it...probably because they haven't had to hear it for 30 years. lol.
