Briggs article
Briggs article
As usual Dave Briggs hits a HR on his article about our job. I hope the blade keeps him around, consistently the one guy that produces well thought out pieces on BGSU and UT sports.
Most of it isn't news to us but perfectly spells out why it was time to move on from Huger and why we're not out of line to have expectations for this program. Also some good quotes from Van der Merwe.
I'm linking the tweet because typically blade articles are free if you go through their Twitter links.

Re: Briggs article
I remember Dieblers dad having HS success in NWO but just being a pretty big jerk.
Re: Briggs article
I'd also like us to take a look at Amir Abdur-Rahim at Kennesaw State. He has built a significant turnaround in his four years and his salary looks to be about $215k there. Would probably be a tough sell with him being from ATL and mostly working in the area, but I think he'd get the job done here.

Re: Briggs article
We seem to be in a cycle of reactionary hires in response to the qualities...or lack thereof..in the previous coach. Dakich was a petulant child...Orr was hired seemingly because he was a sober, deliberate adult. Orr was a tad soporific and unable to repeat his early successes at his previous job.
He was a retread that didn't work...let's hire the fiery, young, up and coming assistant, Chris Jans to inject some enthusiasm and life into the program. Jans was a guy with behavioral issues tied to alcohol consumption...didn't even move here with his family. Let's hire the solid citizen with and previous ties to the University in Michael Huger. Huger was a nice man...not a very good X's and O's coach though and an iffy recruiter.
Let's take a different approach this time and not let the coach you fired influence th coach you hire...let's just pick the best coach

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Re: Briggs article
This looks like a really solid list IMO. Also, I think Briggs originally reported the firing, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he has sources that may have given him these names. Not saying this is all they are considering, but Briggs is usually solid in his reporting. So, I am thinking these guys are being considered legitimately.mbenecke wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 8:35 am The 4 candidates mentioned by The Blade in this article:

I would add that Arizona’s staff has a lot of Gonzaga connections. Not sure if our AD was involved in that selection process at all, but that may be something to watch. Gonzaga typically has a staff and coaching tree with really interesting backgrounds. Mixes of backgrounds in college, NBA analyst positions and rotations in Europe.
Re: Briggs article
I would love him but that is a big extension he got last year and agree it would be tough to get him out of GeorgiaBillyLP wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 9:40 am I'd also like us to take a look at Amir Abdur-Rahim at Kennesaw State.
