Huger Fired
Re: Huger Fired
Josh Pastner about to be available. I’m a big fan of his. He was not in a great situation at GT.

Re: Huger Fired
Christian was my least favorite of the candidates. I got talked into it on here. I honestly can be talked into all 3
Christian-Veteran coach with plenty of wins in the mac. 59
Calhoun-Lots of quality head coaching experience but that defense give me pause
Greer-Hasn't been coaching long but a quick riser with a dynamic personality
I can jump on any of those bandwagons

Re: Huger Fired
Christian is very interesting given his history in the MAC and Ohio bball

I’d be ok with Christian from the notion of breaking the curse then riding off into the sunset.

Re: Huger Fired
I’d take Josh Pastner in a heartbeat. Jim Christain would be a good choice too. Conferences change over time, but he clearly can coach. I’d really press him on his recruiting strategy, but barring any red flags in that conversation, I think he’d fit what they need.
Re: Huger Fired
I think Todd Simon at Southern Utah might be in the mix. Lost in WAC championship game. Graduated from Central Michigan and many thought might have been hired by Central a few years back.
Also pretty sure his Southern Utah team smoked BG a few years back in Florida.

I like the resume. Took over a SUU program that hadn't been .500 in a decade. Took him a couple years to build it up but they've been over .500 now for 5 straight seasons. The last 3 years 20+ wins and top 3 finishes in their conference.guest44 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 13, 2023 8:00 am I think Todd Simon at Southern Utah might be in the mix. Lost in WAC championship game. I want a coach that con consistently produce 20 wins and finish near the top of the conference. Keep doing that and eventually the tournament thing will happen. WIthout knowing anything about them and probably watching less than 0 games when I compare Simon's resume to Calhoun's it appears he's a couple years further and has proven he can do it year over year. Calhoun's YSU squad was really good this year, but it was the first year of that success.
Re: Huger Fired
Not a huge fan of his scheduling. Looks like he pulls the Huger and schedules a bunch of small colleges to pad win totals. He's not the worst option, but I wouldn't have him in my top 3.hammb wrote: ↑Mon Mar 13, 2023 9:29 amI like the resume. Took over a SUU program that hadn't been .500 in a decade. EDIT: Actually, looks like DVDM follows Simon on Twitter and liked a recent tweet of his, so either they knew each other before, or Guest had the scoop on Simon being a legit candidate.

I know the name A.W. Hamilton was mentioned earlier in this thread. Thought I’d share this video that documents his battle with melanoma and surviving it. Very inspiring!

***NEW NAME***
Head Coach Austin Claunch from Nicholls is "in the mix at Bowling Green" according to Trilly Donovan on Twitter who monitors these sorts of things.
Claunch is 33, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina
He started as a grad assistant at George Mason as Director of Player Development in 2012.
Then Clemson from 2013-15 and then moved to Nicholls as an assistant.
He moved to the head chair at the beginning of 2018.
He's currently 90-60 as the head coach. They finished fourth this year after winning back to back regular season titles the previous two years. The second included a first round NIT loss.

I doubt we could afford him but what is the world is Dane Fife doing these days? He had a strange 1 year stint and then was out as an assistant at his beloved Indiana.

Re: Huger Fired
Austin Claunch is an interesting candidate..young, successful, experienced HC. No experience in the area and his roots are in Texas...but then, we apparently don't recruit the area anyway..so...what the hell
