First of all the fact these videos even exist tells me we're in MUCH better hands. SImon has double the twitter followers of Huger and has over 10k tweets in his history to a whopping 850 from Huger. Huger literally didn't have a single basketball tweet during the season...WTF? Anyhow, this video about 14:30 is music to my ears on his playing style, positionless basketball and everybody can shoot. This guy better end up being the coach because now I'm getting really excited:

We all play that what could have been thing with Jans...this guy is coming here with a better resume than Jans, He isn't the hot D1 Assistant. He's a D1 HC on the rise. Feeling optimistic about the direction of the program for the 1st time in s long time

Agreed. The resume is fantastic. The videos are even more encouraging.

A modern approach to the game, tons of experience and success, a modern social media presence.

I had never heard of him until guest's post but he's EXACTLY the type of guy I wanted.

BG made a choice incredibly fast!

It's a new day for BG basketball. It's worth engaging in again.

Maybe coach Simon will recruit Rachaun Agee? I sure hope so.

Strong first hire by DVDM on paper. Hope we're not pulling this thread up in four years and talking about how stupid we all look for praising this move. With the portal and smaller roster sizes in basketball, Todd can have success here quickly if the right moves are made.

I don’t know if the guy is going to be any good or not, but hopefully he can run a competitive program that plays an entertaining style of basketball. Watching BG basketball from Dakich 2.0 on has been extremely rough outside of a couple select years.

Honestly the bar is so low…just fix the parking and make the games fun to attend.

Wow, he has double the twitter followers. Since when does twitter have anything to do with the strength of a basketball coach. This may be one of the most **** comments I have ever seen on here.

Its where recruiting is done and relationships are made. Its not essential but it's a huge bonus.

It is one form of communication with a potential recruit and their family or coaches. That is all. Measuring the value of a coach by the number of followers is just absurd.

The social media presence is actually a huge bonus, to me. It’s obviously not going to be his defining characteristic as a coach here, but it makes it much easier to promote games and get people excited about the program when a coach is actively representing his program online. And then, of course, the recruiting aspect of it.

It isn’t the single most important thing, and it’s probably not in the top 5 most important things. But having someone who will actively promote the program and get people excited online is definitely a perk.

While I would somewhat agree that social media presence does not directly correlate to success, it certainly helps when used right. If it was the end all be all, the BGSU athletic department wouldn't have been a complete dumpster fire with the volume of tweeting it does. However, Huger stopped tweeting and started saying he doesn't look at the stuff right around time Justin Turner stopped playing at BGSU. He was as stubborn with not using social media as he was finding ways to use Isaac Elsasser. Both led to termination.

The program is immediately in better hands today on effort alone. The urgency is back. Something that has been lacking for the better part of 20 years. I'm guessing we will see more offers and something official today.

As you put it, Its not essential but certainly a positive.

Urgency is a great word. Just like Social Media Verbal Commits isn't everything.....but there was a noticeable difference between our offers there and pretty much every other team. Probably directly connected to social media.
