WNIT vs. Memphis (3/23)

Post by mbenecke »

On Thursday, March 23, our Falcons (29-6) will host the Memphis Tigers (22-10) in a 3rd round WNIT game. Tip-off is at 6:00pm, and if you can’t get to the Stroh (if you can - do it!), it’ll be available to stream on ESPN3.

The winner advances to the “Great Eight” of the WNIT, where they will see either Florida or Clemson. Should be a great game!

DVDM is in a #SellOutTheStroh mood on Twitter, and he and his wife are buying 50 student tickets for the event. Pretty cool to see that attitude towards this program as they vie for their 30th win.

To piggyback on DVDM’s generosity, fan Larry Miles committed to buying 200 student tickets, Coach Loeffler bought 100, and Van Wright and Coach Fralick each bought 50, as well. And Elite Collegiate Apparel across Wooster is giving away “Beat Memphis” t-shirts.

It’s good to see the BG athletics community rallying around this team and getting excited for Thursday night’s game. It’s hard enough to get students to come to games when it’s free, so asking them to come to a game and buy a ticket would be even more difficult. They saw a problem and addressed it head on so this great team would have the atmosphere they deserve - kudos to them.

Funny thing on the shirts given out...they're orange. At the same time, another person is trying to coordinate a "white" out. LOL

Oh well...as long as the place is packed.... :-D

Anyone hear anything yet on the status of Hampton?

Ha, I saw that. The person who pushed the white out is the director of basketball ops for the men’s program, so I think he might’ve just gone for it. But it’s only something they’re really pushing for students.

I do appreciate Elite giving out the shirts mightily, though. That’s an awesome thing that they do with great regularity (and they had the idea first this time, too!) and it really is something that means a lot and sets the stage for a big game. Tip of the cap to them.

Glad to see DVDM has already made good on his promise to bring back the Falcon Fanatics. Need to have students leading the charge to get more students involved (in addition to the free tickets/food/swag). Hope there is a good crowd there tonight. Will be thrilled if they can get 2,500 or so.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

First media timeout, we’re tied at 7.

BG started out strong, but we’ve gone cold.

Excellent student turnout. Looking forward to lots more of this with DVDM in charge.

BG leads 15-14 after the 1st quarter. That was ugly.

Memphis 2/13 from the field, BG is 6/19. Tigers have already shot 12 free throws, so we need to tighten up the defense and stop giving them free chances at the stripe.

Great to see DVDM in the first row of the student section, and right next to him is Coach Simon. How Falcon Cool.

BG leads after 1, 15-14.

Todd Simon standing right next to DVDM in the student section.

They talked the talk last week and now they’re walking the walk. Love to see it.

BG up 30-23 at the half. You know what's coming next. I don't think BG can play foul free in the second half. We're going to find out why coach should have rotated more that 9 players, especially two players down.

We're either going to see incredible luck or some players are going to step up tonight! Go BG. Let's bring it home.
