Assault charges have been filed...it would be great if they could squash this amongst themselves, but I also think it's important to uphold the law. Filing charges( that could be dropped) is an appropriate step.

I don't think we should allow the morons amongst us to determine how we administer justice

I'm okay with that. People need to learn that sometimes...you lose. You can't just punch somebody to change the result or make yourself feel better.

I kind of feel like her name being forever associated with this through Google is pretty significant punishment. She's an All-AAC academic athlete who was presumably about to start her career. That's in jeopardy regardless of the charges.

We all make mistakes. Just because that mistake might have long-lasting consequences doesn't mean we should just pretend it didn't happen. If a person drives drunk and kills somebody, they are still prosecuted. I'm sure this player has had violent outbursts in the past that just have not been caught before. I mean, her team just walked off the court after it as if they've seen this before. They had the look of, "Well, there she goes again." If she loses a job opportunity due to this, that employer might be better off because of it.

I see your point. It's just a sad situation all around. Takes away from a really great victory for BG and will probably be a massive distraction for the team leading into Monday.

And the next time?
Will the new legal system include “I kinda feel like…”

She also hired Robyn Fralick at BGSU. I don't know Lauren that well, but from the few interactions I had with her while she was at BG, I'm gonna guess she was embarrassed and mortified at what Shutes did.

She probably was. However, games against St Johns and Jackson St. earlier in this WNIT in which stuff happened would probably have her less than shocked that something more could happen.

Only in college athletics. One night you coach a team with a player who gets charged with assault. The next night you bail for another job.

She’s taking over at her alma mater of Cincinnati. Can’t imagine we’ll be seeing any home-and-homes with them soon.

That Memphis player absolutely needed to be charged with assault. If you watch the replay in slow motion, she is the one that stopped in the line and started jawing. If she had a beef with someone or thought they did something out of line during the game, then she should have just not shaken hands with that person and moved on. Instead, she stopped the line and initiated a confrontation. The BG player stopped for an instant and to her credit, it seemed to me when she realized the nature of what was being said to her, she turned and began to walk away when the Memphis player took a cowardly cheap shot at her. We don't know exactly what was or wasn't said, but the Memphis player clearly instigated what happened after the game and threw the punch when the BG player was simply trying to walk away.

Just giving her a pass for it is not acceptable for any reason. You let something like this go and it sends a message that this kind of thuggery is no big deal.

I don't think this tarnishes the BG win in any way at all. It was a great win and the inappropriate actions of a sore loser on the other team take nothing away from it. Yes, there will be more media attention on the next game because of it, but that's not a negative reflection on BG. The team needs to put it out of mind and focus on Florida and not let it be a distraction.

100% agree. Some ahole on Twitter said it was all Brett's fault. His reasoning? "Talk s**t, get hit". I told him Shutes is the one who stopped the hand shake line & started jawing at Brett.

She needs to pay the price. A couple others on Twitter commended BG players and coaches for not retaliating and said BG is the kind of program they would absolutely send their daughters to.

And then you have one of the rocket slime on their board chastising the BG players for not overreacting and getting themselves into trouble.

Idiots gonna idiot.
