Short leash...but...still a mistake

I will have to see the financial side of it and the potential safeguards we built into the deal to determine if I feel good about it or not, but I do feel happy for Loeffler as a man. It's clear based on his recent activity at the WBB games and whatnot that he cares about this place and wants to win here. I continue to just be hopeful that he is successful.

If there was a great deal of confidence in his ability to win here (as in achieve a winning season) I think he would have been given more than a two year extension. Two years is kind of the minimum if you aren't going to can him. Letting him twist that final year wasn't going to work, adding a year is basically saying :we think you'll fail". Two years is the faintest vote of confidence possible

If it's not a 100% buyout, I'm okay with this. I preferred a one year extension, but two has become the minimum acceptable. As long as we still have the money to open the checkbook for Fralick and see if we can't keep her around for a few more years.

I guess I have no opinion, because I don’t care anymore. The bottom line is: was there a viable better candidate available AND acquire-able this off season? If no, then the extension was probably necessary. I have to chuckle when credit is taken for Brooks…. He started as a true freshman in 2018 for Jinks.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

If there is any level of buyout after the 2023 season then it’s a terrible decision. He had no leverage. Make him coach the year and then evaluate the progress. This is poor poor decision making by the AD and President. Especially an AD who played football. The rest of the MAC is celebrating.

Bottom line is we will be able to definitively say if this was good or bad by about week 5 of the upcoming season. I agree that this isn't the most exciting news, but last year was better, I like the staff changes so far, and if we have any semblance of an offensive line this season, they might not be a horrible team. I'm willing to wait and see. Up until now, I have really been impressed with DVDM.

Brett McMurphy is reporting that the contract starts this year and is for 3 years, 1.74M, which equates to roughly $580K per year, on average.

So basically just a pure extension rather than a raise, which is the one thing I agree with. I believe he was already at $540K, so this is a pretty small increase in relation to other extensions, even in the MAC.

Yeah he’ll only be overpaid by about $1.74 million the next 3 years.

I don't believe he will turn things around, but since I have zero power in any of this, my feelings of apathy just continue to grow when talking about football. Hopefully, this was a move made simply to keep things stable (recruiting mostly) until our AD can do an in-depth evaluation of the program. The fact that it is, in essence, only two more years (beyond this one), makes me think that's exactly what is happening.

Dude can't coach. Extending him is beyond stupid. I really love everything I've seen from the new AD up until this point, but marrying yourself to an incompetent football coach is stupid. I hope he got a good prenup.

DVDM sounds like he's committed to doing whatever is possible to keep Fralick here. ...I hope he' s successful
