As a general rule, I find this type of zealousness is replete with hypocrisy -- and you can find zealots all over the political spectrum. So it's not just those who are conservative.

Since I'm not in his sneakers, I'll let others judge whether this is a good move or not.

That's not what I am saying. Your degree is a signal. Having gone to Bowling Green sends a signal. Going to OSU sends a signal. Going to Miami sends a signal. Going to Liberty sends a signal.

For the rest of his life when he meets normal people and says he went to Liberty the are going to say "Liberty huh?"

Anyone want me to step in here and talk about how terrible Kit Hughes was for BGSU?

I will. I wish more people talked about this so he could finally be exposed.

He was BAAADDDD.

Refreshing changes seem to have happened since he left.

Thank you for noticing this. Glad we can agree. I'm guessing we have information on the coaching staff this week..

Every few years Liberty gets in trouble for something like hiding all the rapes on campus and hushing the women who report them.

My issue: cases of sexual assault were systematically covered up, the university code of conduct was used to blame the victims, and many women who reported an assault were threatened into silence. The university settled the lawsuit last summer; there were over 20 plaintiffs. For this alone I am appalled, disgusted, and embarrassed we have this "school" on our football schedule next year.

The political and religious aspect should be assessed based on one's personal values. Personally, I find banning people who assume non-traditional gender roles to be barbaric. To be fair, the university is just as draconian when it comes to heterosexual relations (only hand holding is allowed and inter-gender hugs can last no more than 3 seconds) so I applaud them for their consistency I guess.

See now...that's something I can use. Covering up sexual assaults and going after the victims is evil. Can't imagine why anyone would care about someone's orientation...but if they're aggressively policing heterosexuals' conduct...at least they're consistent. My nephew is a Mormon..they're like that too

I don't know if it's changed since Falwell's dismissal but they have traditionally had a VERY Draconian "code of conduct". The cover-ups and scandal are reason enough for my feelings about the University, but their code of conduct is the reason why I'd question the sanity of anybody wanting to sign up for that. And to Globe's point I would have believed that most people ok with that level of control would wear it on their sleeves more, but whatever, to each their own. Hell if they're going to be ok with hypocrisy maybe it's wink wink that athletes aren't held to the same standard.

It's not ONLY on sexual things. Alcohol use (even of age, even off campus) was completely prohibited. Same with tobacco use. I believe that policy was supposed to be equally applied to students and staff (although I think we all know how those things are typically enforced). They've historically had a very strict dress code, etc. Again, who knows, maybe it's changed with their other changes, but historically it's been pretty crazy.

I presume they're Baptists...my daughter went to a Baptist school until 8th grade...they got really Baptisty there at the end. Sent her off to Bedford Jr High and High...which became an even bigger mess. Education...it's such a crapshoot

WE have been through like three daycares so soon. Can't wait for the crapshoot of older grades.
