Swankler just tweeted a suggestion that we have an outdoor game at BG next year.

Biggest news on this front, in my opinion.

I think he’s back unless something crazy happens.

Why doesn't someone ask if he'll be playing in it if it happens?

Todd Knott turned down the opportunity to be HC in Mankato. Now it gets really interesting…

Todd Knott turned down the Mavs job, he is likely heading to Madison. The search for Hastings replacement continues. Bad news for Mankato. I can’t see how this is good news for the league.

I just saw an interesting graph that indexes expenses against RPI for each team based on the league they're in. While it isn't anything you wouldn't guess, it's jolting to visually see how tight the correlation is between monies spent and RPI and how clustered the leagues are.

Image

The x-axis is based on an analysis that has been making the rounds over the past few days. I don't know the specifics behind the calculations or how normalized they are across leagues, geographies, public/private, etc. but on a relative basis it's probably not far off. We have something in common with Jackie Robinson.

Players from Mankato are hitting the portal. While Silye is a big loss, Fitzgerald still has 3 years to go.

Code: Select all

Name Pos Gms G/A/TP YOE
Christian Fitzgerald F 38	16/13/29 3
David Silye F 39	23/16/39 1
Simon Tassy F 15 1/4/5 3
Bennett Zmolek D 0 0/0/0 3
It's a brand new league.

Edit: Here's what's gone down in Mankato in one week:

Pro Contracts:
Livingstone
Hirose
Borchardt
Pavel
Carroll
Sandelin
Furry

Transfer Portal:
Silye
Zmolek
Fitzgerald
Tassy

Coaches:
Hastings
Knott

Hockey ops:
Regner

Add the possibility of Sowder and Malinowski to the Badger roster as those names are now in the rumor mill.

BG has added 2 guys out of the portal.

Josh Nodler (1 year left) - played 3 years at Michigan State and a 1 at UMass. Had 39 points in 4 years as a forward.

Owen Ozar (2 years left) - played 2 years at Denver. 7 points in 2 years as a forward.

These are't Nathan Burke or Chase Gresock numbers, but we'll see how they do!

With the last two portal additions it looks like next year's roster is nearly complete. I have one more opening at forward for either a final portal transfer or for "he who shall go nameless for fear of upsetting the hockey gods."

BG was going to go from what seemed like the oldest team this season, to the youngest next. Adding some age right now doesn't hurt. Personally, I'd like to see the roster itself grow by a player or two over last season. Maybe rotate an entire line in and out of the lineup instead of 1 or 2 guys.

Based on the injuries last year when we're starting whoever is healthy that day, I agree.

These transfers don't really provoke much excitement. Seem like bodies to fill out the roster. I guess we'll see. No doubt the 2023-24 team will have its work cut out.
