Was he even qualified to coach OL? At least the new guy worked with the DL last year, close enough.

Nosal hasn't coached OL...but he did play it in college...so we'll see

I like the shift. Bayer to TE makes a ton of sense and I like the new CBs coach, too. Nosal certainly can't be any worse at OL than what we've had.

Agreed. The OL has been consistently subpar since Coach Loeffler has been here. For the Love of PJ Pope, we've rushed for a measly 100 yards a game two straight seasons. We simply have to get bigger and stronger up front. Teams know we can't run and have to pass most of the time. We have some really good RB's that can bust off yards. That OL has to get better.

Not sure what the point of recruiting high school quarterbacks is at this point in the MAC. Just use the portal every year and use the scholarships for other positions.

Dude made his way up as a QB coach that has never developed a QB anywhere. He had McDonald for like 14 yrs and he barely progressed to decent MAC player.

Bainbridge was never going to get a shot here because Loeffler knows he's on the hot seat. He rode and died with McDonald, never letting any of the kids have a shot. Then he needed an immediate starter for next season so you knew he was going to try and find a transfer with experience. I'm not even sure that's entirely WRONG, per se, but I miss the days of recruiting quality QBs from HS that maybe RS a year, then get some sparing snaps, then are ready to hop into the role.

Development has to start with A) having a decent QB coach on staff, and B) being willing to get your developing players snaps in games.

Mobile quarterbacks generally win in the MAC. Loeffler still hasn't figured that part out.

I disagree.

YEs, that's the case if you have a garbage coach unable to plan ahead and constantly grasping for the next grass is greener straw, but that hasn't proven to be true conference wide.

Kurtis Rourke was OPOY and developed in Athens
Fin developed in Toledo.

Those were easily the 2 best offenses in the conference last year and 2 of the best teams. Buffalo, BG, and Eastern had transfers at QB to varying degrees of success, but the #3 passing QB in the conference last year was Paddock who was developed at BSU.

I don't think there's one single way to skin a cat at all. Recruiting and developing a HS kid at QB likely has more volatility than taking transfers, but it also has a better ceiling. The best QBs in the conference have pretty consistently been guys recruited out of HS. Now what I will agree with is that the days of having a HS kid RS, then be a backup for 2 more years to play as a Junior are long gone. Any HS kid you recruit you have probably 2 yrs to get him on the field in some capacity or he'll move on. But I still think if you develop them and get them some playing time and have an actual plan for them it's the best way to build.
