Re: Recruiting 2023-2024 The Simon Era
Looks like a pure gunner. Seems like a guy who could go 1-15 or 12-15 on any given night, but is going to fun to watch no matter what as he seems like a "highlight reel" type of guy. The kind of guy who makes the MAC fun. I like it

Curious to see if this is Humphrey and it got out before he could tweet the Ziggy alert or someone else new
Orange and Brown blog seems to have the same news as notkit as they have Lightfoot and Curtis not returning, meaning Humphrey gets us to eight scholarship players

Re: Recruiting 2023-2024 The Simon Era
After Simon posted the Ay Ziggy thing, he retweeted DaJion. So I’m assuming that was what that was for. He got scooped!
On the Curtis/Lightfoot situation:
I did a little social media digging, and while neither has said anything themselves about being in the portal, and it hasn’t been reported that they are (despite it closing yesterday), Curtis left a comment under a post about Lightfoot saying that “whoever gets him is getting a good one.”
So I do buy that there is something there.

Are there literally zero incoming freshmen? Like, we didn’t sign a single high school kid in the 2023 class? Or am I forgetting someone?

Re: Recruiting 2023-2024 The Simon Era
Huger basically quit recruiting (especially HS) after COVID, so I could be wrong, but I don't remember us getting anything in the early signing period.
For the late period the only chance we'd likely have, with the coaching change, is if Simon convinced anybody he was recruiting to SUU to come here. If he even wanted those guys here.
IT is interesting because Coach Simon has stated that he believes one of his greatest strengths/wins at SUU was keeping kids in the program for multiple years while other programs are constantly churning in/out of the portal. This leads me to believe that he's going to put some focus on HS kids in the future, but it's really tough to pull off when you need to build an entire roster on the fly. He may add one or two very late HS signees this summer, that wouldn't shock me, but I also don't think he's likely to use all of our scholarships this year. I don't think he's going to tie up everything unless he's getting guys he wants here for multiple years.

Re: Recruiting 2023-2024 The Simon Era
Yeah the only HS Sr. offer left from Huger is Bryce Coleman out of Chicago. He shows 3 total offers with none in 2023 and only one other in 2022. Supposedly some of the HS recruiting gurus view him as being seriously under-recruited. That being said, I doubt he will be a Falcon. I did hope the kid from Covington KY who signed 10 days or so ago with Coastal Carolina would have still been a target even with the new regime. He averaged 30+ ppg and was a KY All Stater.
Re: Recruiting 2023-2024 The Simon Era
Update to the "Twitter double-follow target list": Trey Thomas added [committed], Kyron Gibson, guard, added [entered transfer portal April 24th from UT Arlington]. I believe UT Arlington is in the WAC, so Simon and staff would have scouted him for conference games.guest44 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 7:29 amSpurgin is a huge get. The most versatile frontcourt BGSU has had in years in terms of depth. I've heard the staff has had recruits/transfers on campus most days this past week. Plenty of guards still left in the portal.Hdog wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 9:35 pm Using my flimsy theory of players followed by both Todd Simon's and BGSU Men's Basketball's Twitter accounts, it appears we can identify "targets":
Four 'new to BG' players met this double follow criteria: Javon Jackson [transfer portal from Southern Nazarene University - DII], Jason Spurgin [committed], DaJion Humprhey [Juco transfer discussed earlier in this thread], and PJ Edwards [committed].
It appears we offered Javon Jackson on March 19th, the day he put his name in the portal. He has accumulated several mid-major DI offers. He also appeared to visit BGSU today: https://twitter.com/_JavonJackson/statu ... 79265?s=20
I believe there are other offers out there if you have the time to piece together everything. I ran out of patience. lol

Do we still have another coaching spot open? One of the responses to Simon's latest tweet was from the Creighton Assistant Head Coach, Ryan Miller, who is not followed by both Simon and DVDM. Might be an incoming staff member.BGFalconfromCincy wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 8:08 amCurious to see if this is Humphrey and it got out before he could tweet the Ziggy alert or someone else new

Yes, only two assistant coaches have been announced so far. Though Tum Tum Nairn isn't showing as an assistant on the athletic department website, while Bryce Martin and German Srulovich are listed for their positionsBillyLP wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 11:55 amDo we still have another coaching spot open? Re: Recruiting 2023-2024 The Simon Era
Guards
Thomas 3/4 - Humphrey 3/4 - Edwards 2-McCombs 2
Posts
Agee 3/4-Felt 1/2- Spurgin 3/4-Towns 3/4
Starters (so far)
6'0" Thomas-90 SEC games, 20 starts in there, 23mpg last year, career 5.9ppg, 2 years of eligibility-looks like a spot-up shooter who can attack the basket with a quick first step and release and decent ball handler but not a distributor,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-eV1tjGWKI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHu0VWjxLOA
6'4" Edwards-19 games for UCF last year, averaged 1.7ppg, 3 years of eligibility, really nice stroke, strong to the basket and scores with contact,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rZjTTaEkjE
6'4" Humphrey-45 games at Holy Cross and then GCCC last year, 6.2 ppg as a So, 2 years of eligibility, similar to Edwards can shoot and strong to the basket
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhq-G-RrUYQ
6'8" Agee-Started just 4 games but averaged 9.9 and 5.7. 2 years of eligibility, Dominant around the rim, will be interesting to see what he does playing next to a legit C
6'11" Spurgin-Started 73 games for Simon at SUU, averaged 10-6 last year, and 1.7 blocks, Not super athletic but has nice touch around the rim, and big-time fundamentals when it comes to scoring and rebounding, consistently figures out how to maneuver to score and rebound,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJM_mQn5TV4&t=81s
Depth
6'3" Mccombs-3 years of eligibility played-21 games last year1.2ppg
6'9 Towns-2 years of eligibility-started 20 games last year, averaged 6.1-4.4, solid all-around game, very good mid-range shot, capable backup at the 4 and 5.
6'9 Felt -4 years of eligibility-didn't play in 22-23 due to a reported knee injury.
5 more spots to fill, right now we have a really nice rotation in the post and some decent shooter on the wing. Could use a true PG/distributor, another freshman/developmental post and some length at the 3. When you look at the recruits so far it's obvious there is a plan. Shooting is paramount. Their averages don't reflect their ability.

Re: Recruiting 2023-2024 The Simon Era
I really like that starting 5, but the lack of depth is worrisome. I think Towns and Felt are decent depth up front but this is a guard league and we are severely lacking at guard if Lightfoot is out. Or even if he isn't.

Chandler Turner has committed to Radford. Best of luck to the former Falcon.
