Being a starter on a "rough unit" may not be the positive it seems to be. I think the pitch is..."OL has been a weakness since I got here so we're committed to fixing it NOW...competition is wide open and we have a new positional coach who will be viewing everyone equally with fresh eyes from day one"
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Obviously all spots are open but it probably looks something like this.

Kameren Stewart, Sr. - 9 starts here last year at LT after playing in 29 games at Coastal Carolina
OPEN
OPEN
Bronson Warner, Jr. - started every game for us last year at right guard and played 11 games at Abeliene Christian in 2021
Alex Wollschlaeger, Jr. - started 12 of 13 games at right tackle

Most experienced in the mix for playing time
Chris Akporoghene, Sr. - played in 10 games at Tulsa and 7 games at Tennessee. 3 Star
Cade Zimmerly, So. - played in 3 games last year after starting 10 the year before
Cedric Dunbar, Sr. - played in 9 games with 4 starts between guard and tackle

Power 5 transfers with upside.
Jake Burns, Jr. - played in 3 games last year, all on special teams, after spending 2 seasons at Cincinnati
Armon Bethea, So. - did not play at Arizona State after transitioning from DL 3 star
Hunter Deyo, Fr. - 2022 recruiting class, xfer from Iowa State,
https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11080760/6 ... 0358eceed1 Looks like huge upside.

Experienced depth
Tunde Fatukasi, Jr. - played in 9 games, starting 4 across both tackle spots
Alex Padgett, So. - played in all 13 games last year, mostly on special teams

Upside potential
Darius Gaddy, So. - redshirted last year
Brody Bolyn, Fr. - Freshman from Indiana

Burns was a walk on at Cincinnati. Not sure if he’s on scholarship here or not. But he’s closer to one of your Heidelberg guys.

Its impossible for me to believe there aren't 3 to 4 to 7 Raw Freshman who wouldn't love a chance to play D1 football. I completely understand going this D1 transfer route. I like it and think its the smartest way to do it. I don't understand, as most of you have said, not filling up the room with bodies. 1 freshman? Seems absurd.

I believe Cade Zimmerly is our only Center. He was good except for one flaw his first year.......He had a nasty habit of hiking the ball over our QBs head. That is why Jalen Grant was moved to Center. If Zim has worked thru that issue, I assume he will be our starting center.

I'd like to see them bring back some old Clawson stats for OLineman.......... # of pancake blocks.

Our QB room is down to a QB closet right now, as Daelen Menard, who transferred to BG from Boston College just a short time ago, has left the team and transferred elsewhere. We’re now down to only 3 QB’s on the entire roster, one of which has never played a collegiate down. I would assume they’re looking to add another QB this offseason, as carrying just 3 (of which only 2 have experience) is very light and very risky with injuries and the rate that guys just up and transfer at any moment.

Here’s some news/insight on the OL. Unfortunately, Zimmerly is injured and it looks like he might be out for the year. Deyo was brought in to hopefully take over the #1 center spot since Grant transferred (he could play both C and OG). Burns and Bolyn will back him up. The big news on the OL is Nate Pabst is moving from the DL to the OL, likely to LT, and will challenge for the #1 spot. Pabst was recruited by a number of schools who wanted him as a OL, but we promised him a year on the DL. The move sounds very promising. He will challenge Stewart for the #1 LT spot and don’t be surprised to see him win the job after fall camp. Warner will likely be the #1 RG again but will be challenged by Akporoghene. They’re moving Fatukasi inside where he’ll battle Dunbar and Padgett for the #1 LG spot. Wollschlaeger will likely be the #1 RT with Bethea challenging at that spot. Kabir, the FAMU transfer, is gone. That pretty much sums up the two-deep position battles on the OL as things currently stand.

There is not much promising about the synopsis above, unfortunately. Patchwork is an understatement. An inevetible injury or two, and it is bleak.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

Move guys out...move guys in...continuity? What's that?

Hopefully these guys will jell in time for conference play...but that's probably a pipe dream.

We should expect at least 9 wins this year...a couple of years ago, SL said we could have won 9 if he went out and got a bunch of OL transfers instead of focusing on the methods used by Dave "By God" Clawson by recruiting and playing youngsters. We've done a complete 180 from that approach...so I think it's fair to say 9 wins or bust

This is the year BG wins the MAC Championship according to Loeffler. As of this morning Draftkings has Bowling Green Under 5 wins priced -175. We've known for a while this hire wasn't going to end well. Loeffler did accomplish one thing. He lowered the standard so low he got an additional year.

Ha! Well, in theory it is the year we should be ready to compete for one. But he had no idea of knowing what they were putting together in Athens when he made that comment. There's no way Ohio isn't winning the East again this year. They are simply loaded and their offense will be scary good. They return the MAC Player of the Year at QB (Rourke), the MAC Freshman of the Year at RB (Bangura), a 1st Team All-MAC WR (Wiglusz) and feature one of the best sets of WR's and OL's in the conference. Their offense reminds me of how potent and explosive BG's was in 2015. But the scary part is, their defense is going to be very good too. If I had to pick between Ohio vs the Field in the East, I'm taking Ohio hands down.
