I would’ve been fine with any of the 3 final names they had to be voted on.

Excited for basketball season! Seems like they are gonna lean hard into creating a raucous environment. I love it.

Sad thing is half of those existed years ago before athletics decided to stop them. Students always loved the fatheads and other distraction items but someone took the mazey head which caused hell to break loose. Student entrance being open again is a big plus especially with them reinvigorating it.

Most importantly they changed the name of the student section to anything besides the bird cage. I don't think anyone has ever referred to it as that while this new name is unique and gives me an animal crossing vibe

Okay, I'm gonna say it.

"Ziggy" is a lame term to embrace in representing BGSU sports.

Ziggy means zero. Nada. Nothing. Shutout. There was a cartoon character "Ziggy" who was Charlie Brown on 'roids - a perpetual loser/reject.

I've always hated this term's use in association with BGSU sports.

Ziggy obviously comes from Ay Ziggy Zoomba. It’s a cool weird thing that modern college kids like. Obviously it doesn’t mean anything, but it’s marketable and the “important” people like it.

I’m assuming Ziggyville is supposed to be a play on Duke’s Kryzewskiville.

What were the other two finalists?

Ziggy Zone
Falcons Nest (I didn't like this because it's the same name as the union food court)

First thing I thought of was Wrigleyville and the Chicago Cubs.

I’m going to sound like a grumpy old man for a second, but can we then make sure that the students stay in their section? I have to kick students from my center court seats entirely too often.

Now, being non-grumpy, I’m glad to see we are trying to do something to get students to the games.

Your grumpiness is valid! It drives me nuts to see students at the game sitting elsewhere.

But it does seem like there is going to be a real effort to get them to sit in the student section. It’ll probably be a process, but the WNIT run proved it can be done.

That goes back to operations and something I should have mentioned on the survey because most games someone was in my seat. Sometimes students and sometimes people that think every seat besides the Anderson club is general admission. Happens with having a front row seat but I agree it makes me grumpy after a while.

Solution to that and the student issues is more staff and communication. With students going into the back entrance that will help because the first sections they see will be their section instead of having to walk around where they see better open seats. Before covid they had some ushers also. It would be helpful if they added reserved/students/general admission under section numbers around the arena similar to the ice arena

Why? Some students probably enjoy the game itself more than the craziness that should be the student section. Nothing wrong with them finding elsewhere to sit.

I am to remember some posts from a few years ago about ushers acting like Gestapos, and people complaining. Some of these posts make me think it's what people really want.

It’s one thing for students to sit in the general admission sections, but sitting in a section where you are sitting in someone’s reserved seat is something else. That’s the main problem here.

But also, I’m a definite student section person when I was a student, and it drove me nuts that none of my peers wanted to participate when I was in school from 2016-2020. It’s deflating to go to a game that you know the team needs to win, and for there to be basically nobody on campus that actually cares.

I’m hopeful that the efforts from this administration will revive the excitement and passion for sports in the student body, because that has been severely lacking for years now, outside of hockey.
