Just kinda reality in this conference, at this point. Maybe that’s just apathy kicking in, but I genuinely think our program’s absolute ceiling moving forward is like 7 or 8 wins tops. We schedule too many guaranteed losses to expect to win double digit games. Especially to expect that consistently.
The league may be diminished talent wise, or is it just the “haves” are so much better? Whatever it is, someone has to win it, be the best. If the talent is all the same in the MAC, then it’s all coaching/motivating.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

Bryce DeFalco was on the sidelines with a knee brace and crutches, may have been him. He's listed as a RB though on the roster.

The MAC isn't that greatly different than the NFL in my mind (in this regard).

The talent from the top of the conference to the bottom/middle isn't as a wide a gap as you may think. Teams having more experience will naturally be a bit better, but there just aren't any rosters in this league that are filled with college football superstars. The differentiators are coaching and QB play/talent. This has been historically very true in the MAC for 20+ years as well. If you're a MAC football team saying "Our defense will be a strength" then you're gonna be a really bad football team. Success in the MAC means succeeding on offense. It means a QB making plays and it means a system capable of putting up points.

The teams that win this league average north of 30ppg virtually every year. And that is their season average that includes those money games that they were likely completely outclassed.

Discussing the "ceiling" of MAC teams I have a very difficult time saying that 7-8 wins is the ceiling when there has been only 1 full season in the past decade that didn't produce multiple 9+ win teams. Setting that ceiling so low is merely BG fans lowering our own standards in our mind. We won 6 games last year with a loss against a 1AA team and getting blown out in multiple MAC games. If we were actually a good team (and not simply better than the bottom of the league) we would have been a 9win team. That was the year to do so with a 10th year senior at QB, but our coach is a moron. OU managed 10 wins (with a bowl victory) even though they lost the championship game and played 2 games where they had zero shot of winning.

It's the MAC...best QB's win...especially if you have at least a decent OL. We haven't had either here since 2015 when we won a total of 10 games with MJ as our QB.

Definitely agree that Loeffler has lead to a lowering of our standards her. If you look at the highlights from conference losses in 2020 and then watch the highlights form the games we got blown out in against Kent, UB and OU...it's really tough to see much improvement. I tend to think we're gonna get fustigated by those same teams this year

Kent isn't returning any starters on offense with an entirely new system. If that's a loss, this season will truly be an abject failure.

We'll find out right out of the gate vs. Liberty whether or not this year's team is truly better or not. Despite being 12-point dogs, I think it's a winnable game given the coaching turnover with the Flames. Beat EIU and get out of non-conference at 2-2, I think there's potential for a 7-win season. Ohio, Toledo, & UB will be the toughest conference games, and two of those are at home. No doubt there will be a very line this season between success and failure.

I like Kenni Burns...I think he has a chance to excel. He's brought in a lot of talent to Kent. His team went through an actual spring practice this season.....we didn't. Game is at Kent...I think it will be an L

This is a Scot Loeffler coached team that isn't sure who its QB will be on 8/14. I'm quite certain he's still coaching a system that nearly everybody seems to think takes years to learn, and even the guy that played 6 years for him never became more than average to slightly above.

I continue to believe that every single game we win, outside of perhaps the EIU game, will be a surprise to me.

Yes, I know we will likely win more than just that 1 game, but I don't go into any of them "expecting" wins.

I believe the wack scheme, going for it on 4th in bad spots and not sticking with what is working ( trying to outsmart everyone) will not change and will take its toll on whomever the QB is. McDonald was able to overcome a lot of bad situations last season.

Johnson injured the knee and Little is gone most of season with shoulder.

I think you nailed the last part of this. It’s been like 8 years now since I went into a game expecting to win. That’s extremely relatable. Every time we win, it’s a surprise/relief - never an expectation.

I'm excited about heading to BG to see men's and women's hoops...I have zero interest in going to a football game.

Definitely excited to see the actual product.

I’m going to the homecoming football game - but the plan is to tailgate, watch the first half, watch the band at halftime, then leave and get home to watch Ohio State-Notre Dame. I don’t have concrete plans to get to another game - and again, only 3 home Saturday games and 2 home weeknight games makes the decision to not come out for more pretty easy for me.

I don’t have high hopes that we will be playing the Bobcats close, even with it being such a big game for us.

Has anyone seen any details on this extension Loeffler signed? In particular what is the buyout situation? I think that is going to be a very important topic by the end of September.

$560K this year, $580K in 2024, $600K in 2025. My guess is his buyout would be any remaining salary owed on the remainder of his contract if/when a buyout occurs, and likely mitigated if/when he would find other employment.

Here's hoping we find a way to win 8 games this year and one of his nepotistic buddies hires him away. His career arc is mind boggling to me, but he keeps finding employment, often times promotions. Hell, he's not even a Peter Principal example or he wouldn't have made HC.

BGSU has absolutely zero justification to pay a football coach that much money. And a bad one? Blech...
