Heck I think Ryan Day should’ve simply waited until Play 1
Loeffler is a worse head coach than Mike Jinks. He's equally shitty at actually winning football games. He's far more annoying in the press with a new excuse every other day for his own incompetence. And (this is as BIG one), he's already ruined BG football for an extra year and change longer than Jinks did. At least Jinks's teams scored points when they lost.

Re: vs. Liberty (9/2)
I am sorry but my B.S. alert just went off... as much as I would like to see our team compete and win MAC titles every year, we are light years ahead of the garbage years of Jinks. With Loeffler, we do compete about every week, beat UT occasionally, and have our big upset every year.hammb wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 4:03 pmI really don't like how frequently I read your posts and just nod my head these days. Re: vs. Liberty (9/2)
This is what I'm talking about, your comment has no basis in reality; we are objectively NOT "light years ahead of the garbage years," at least not on the field. I guess I should caveat it by saying I feel like last year's 6-7 season was an absolute high water mark for a Loeffler coached team. I didn't see at as "progress" as much as I saw it as a blind squirrel finding a nut in an absolutely horrendous conference, and even that nut was half rotten. If they build off that "progress" and put up another season with a winning MAC record? I'll concede Loeffler is better than Jinks (but still probably really bad)Falco_peregrinusana wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 7:21 amI am sorry but my B.S. alert just went off... as much as I would like to see our team compete and win MAC titles every year, we are light years ahead of the garbage years of Jinks. Do I hate Loeffler's offense and actually WATCHING the team more than Jinks? Unequivocally. Do I hate Loeffler's press conferences more than Jinks? I honestly don't remember much of note from Jinks's time in the press, so I'll say definitely since Loeffler has had at least a half dozen notable moments that made me cringe. I do give him credit for finding 2 wins in 4 years against UT, and 1 or 2 upsets, so I guess give him credit for that but week in/week out he's worse.
As for "compete every week," you're distorting reality with how bad Jinks was (and he was truly awful). Scot Loeffler's team last year was his greatest coaching achievement, going 5-3 in MAC play. Those 3 losses were all by 24+ points. In 4 seasons of Loeffler ball we've had 16 such 24+ point losses against MAC competition. If that is "competing every week" then I guess I just don't know where the expectations are at this program any longer. By comparison Jinks had only 4 such MAC blowouts in his 2 1/2 seasons.
Jinks was terrible. In 19 MAC games his point differential was -106 (-5.6ppg). His teams averaged over 30ppg in MAC contests. Loffler, in 29 MAC games, has a point differential of -502 (-17.3ppg) and his teams have averaged a whopping 19ppg offensively in that span.
Yeah, ya'll can keep drink Loeffler flavored kool-ade. Maybe he's done a better job recruiting or in the community or some other metrics. But on the field, in MAC games? He's been cow s**t compared to Jinks's dog s**t. It's all s**t his pile is just a lot bigger. As far as I see it the only real difference is the program has gotten so bad for so long that we've lowered our mind's expectations to the point it FEELS like Loeffler isn't as bad as Jinks was. Certainly Jinks inherited a program in a far better place, so maybe that's cause for a lot of this (although to read this board Babers was also evil incarnate and handed over a place in ruins when Jinks got here). And if we're going to hold the expectations of the program he inherited against Jinks I think it's equally fair to hold against Loeffler the fact that overall quality of the MAC is now below what it was 5-8 years ago as well.
It's the same now as it was when he was hired and when he first started making excuses: Scot Loeffler cannot coach football. He was a bad QB coach. He was a bad OC. He's been a bad HC. He'll probably get an AD job next and be bad at that too.
Re: vs. Liberty (9/2)
And with that, I'm going to step away from the Loeffler BGSU career bashing. It doesn't feel right on the eve of starting a new season. I have super low expectations, but I hope like hell I'm wrong. I so badly want this program to be worth watching again.
Feel free to call me out. I'm going to attempt to keep my Loeffler bitching to only what's going on THIS season. Contrary to popular belief I don't enjoy being negative nelly constantly. This program just hasn't given much reason for positivity over the past 8 years.

Re: vs. Liberty (9/2)
I don't see the point of arguing about levels of incompetence...I will say that Loeffler, Jinks and Moe Ankney are the worst football coaches I've seen at BGSU. I'm tempted to add the backstabbing Denny Stoltz to the Mt Rushmore...but he had a really great season going in 1985 before he ruined it.
I hope BGSU wins all their games...but I don't think we'll win even half of them. That being said, I'll be glued to the computer tomorrow at noon

I know I'm old because I still have a true Satellite DirecTV subscription. I still can't find a streaming option that gives me what I want for a savings amount that is worth the hassle.mbenecke wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 9:23 amhammb, you suck!hammb wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 9:06 am And with that, I'm going to step away from the Loeffler BGSU career bashing. The plus side is I get CBSSN on that subscription so should be able to watch the game when I'm home.

Re: vs. Liberty (9/2)
I will admit that this is Loeffler’s make or break year, but he inherited the worst program in FBS when he took over. He’s had some great upsets and some brutal and embarrassing defeats - with Covid in the middle. Last year the team was respectable. This year we need to be competing for the MACC but he was dealt the worst cards in program history when he came on board. The time is now. Go BG!
Re: vs. Liberty (9/2)
This is the exact correct angle. Loeffler is lightyears better than Jinks (which is more a testament to how horrible Jinks was than anything). For one, he actually put people with real experience on his staff. That said, he has still been a solid year behind where he should be for every year he has been here. He should go if he wins less than 7 games this year, though I think he'll be given another year if he wins 6. If he wins 5 or less, he's gone.ZuluWarrior wrote: ↑Fri Sep 01, 2023 11:55 am I will admit that this is Loeffler’s make or break year, but he inherited the worst program in FBS when he took over.
