vs. Eastern Illinois (9/9)

Post by jpfalcon09 »

Home opener against an FCS opponent. Last year didn't go so hot against EKU, so taking these games for granted is asking for trouble.

EIU beat Indiana State on the road last week 27-0 on the back of four INTs, two which were returned for scores. They've struggled the past few years so easy to assume they'll be ready to play this week after opening the season with a win.

Some notes from Loeffler's press conference:

- Both QBs will play, probably to no one's surprise. The old addage is if you have two QBs, you really have none. We will see how that all shakes out.

- Nine missed assignments in pass pro were noted, three of which led to INTs in SL's opinion. Once again poor line play is going to be a concern.

- He mentioned Taron Keith needs more touches and I couldn't agree with him more. He's a dynamic playmaker in both the run and pass game.

- Defense made several solo open field tackles which was nice to see for the first game. He believed and I agree that unit played pretty well as a whole.

- Plenty of hubris about fixing the issues this week and this being a good team. I guess we'll see. Plenty to chew on for those who want him out of town.

I see this being a closer game than it needs to be. Not a big believer in issues being magically solved in one week. BG gets the win but it ain't pretty, 27-10.

Most important thing this week is getting a win.

Take care of the football and lean on the run more.

2:00pm on ESPN+ Saturday - I’ll be checking for updates from a wedding.

This may come as a shock...but backwards people who don't consider the sports calendar when scheduling major life events do exist....I don't know why God allows this

Good Stuff, JP. This week is an absolute must win. There are reasons I have hope in SL and just as many reasons I don't. lol. It is maddening watching a team, which clearly has talent, continue to struggle in the same areas in year 5. I gotta agree with Hammb and couple others about the QB situation. I like Orth but I don't know if he is good enough to get us to the top. If SL is a QB guru, I haven't seen evidence of that.

BTW boys, my anniversary is Sunday, Sept 10. We got married 9/10/94, just like Major Falcon and Monica. I started buying season tix in '96. There have been times when our anniversary has fallen on a game day. Give and take...last year we played EKU on our anniversary and we had other plans. Probably a good one to miss. lol.

I should be good for a few seasons now. lol

I know anything can happen any given week, but I will be very close to throwing in the towel on this season, and Loeffler, if we don't win by 20+. Gotta show that we have an offense and defense that can dominate an inferior opponent, especially when you have three (very likely) superior opponents coming up.

Its easy to say you don't have a QB when the offense you are running takes forever to develop and doesn't put any QB in a good position to succeed.

Weather is looking good for Saturday, lower 70s at kickoff with a mix of sun & clouds and light north winds.

One thing I noticed vs. Liberty was how slow the snaps were getting to the QB. Padgett played center and he's listed as a guard on the roster, so I'm assuming there's an injury somewhere. Probably explains the snap issues.

We should win. I don't know by how much, but it should be a win. If it's not, and we take a 2nd FCS loss in a row, there will be serious panic.

Immense panic if we lose...moderate panic if we win a close one

SP+ is 66%, expected spread of 7.3. Predicted finish of 28-20 BG. if it's that close, there are major, major issues here.
