vs. Eastern Illinois (9/9)
Re: vs. Eastern Illinois (9/9)
Win or lose, the Loeffler hubris with very little to show for it is getting quite old. He spent the lead up to the Liberty game talking about how great the OL was going to be with the the new OL coach. Again not much to show for it. It was nice to see them try to fight their way back into the second half, but let's be honest, we are rarely going to out coach or out scheme most teams.
Re: vs. Eastern Illinois (9/9)
I honestly feel like we should lean on the run a bit more. Keith only got 3 carries. Stewart only got 7. Feels like they are both the types of backs that could carry the ball at least 10-15 times per game. And that's not to be disrespectful to WImberly or Patterson, but what's the point of spreading it out that much and not letting anyone get in rhythm?
Would it be crazy to pare down the number of guys getting carries (8 different guys ran the ball last week) to give our best runners a bigger workload? They can definitely handle it.
Just feels like our offensive distribution is weird. Osborne had 2 touches. Hiliare had 4, and he's our best player. Feels like we need to find a way to get our best players the ball more often.

Getting behind against Liberty early forced them to abandon the run. The RBBC thing is uber cliché. Comes off that they need to keep certain guys mouths fed or else they'll leave, so you get four different RBs carrying the ball. The NFL started this trend and it's filtering down to the college level. I agree that the best playmakers don't get the ball as much as they should. I remember that being a bone of contention for many on here regarding Broden's usage. Anythig SL says needs to be taken with a massive grain of salt at this point.mbenecke wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 11:22 am I honestly feel like we should lean on the run a bit more. EIU has decent size up front on DL...and they're a veteran team, mostly JR, Sr and Grad transfers on the two deep defensively. LB Elijawah Tolbert was the FCS national defensive player of the week by...somebody.
Hopefully, we can establish the run a bit...we were 50/50 run pass last week...maybe up that run % a touch

Just take care of the football this week. Whatever plan leads to less than 5 interceptions, I'm in.

EIU's offense looks more fun than ours

Had a dream last night that we were down 38-7 in the third quarter.
Hopefully it was a nightmare and not a premonition.

Damn...he we sit hoping for a win at home against an FCS team. Way to lower the bar, Scot.
For the hell of it...I did a search on here for "fire Scot Loeffler"... first mention appears to be in 2021.

To be fair, we didn't win the FCS game last year. We gave up 59 points and lost in 7OT. Lol
I still cannot believe we lost that game and somehow figured out a way to get to a bowl game. That's nuts to me.

Re: vs. Eastern Illinois (9/9)
Oddly enough the only blowout win of SL's tenure was his first game against Morgan State, 46-3. Murray State was 27-10 in 2021, and we know what happened last year vs. EKU. No recent history suggests things will be easy on Saturday, and it's sad. I'm sure Toledo fans aren't worried about losing to Texas Southern.

One note from the depth chart this week - the "OR" designation has been dropped at kicker and Alan Anaya is officially listed as the #1.

That Morgan State game was the last game I went to at the Doyt...probably won't be back until there's a change. I even turned down free tickets to the Michigan game. Have no interest in driving to AA...finding parking and dealing with the crowds to watch JJ McCarthy light us upjpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 9:40 amOddly enough the only blowout win of SL's tenure was his first game against Morgan State, 46-3.
