They needed that kind of win regardless of the quality of the opposition. UM game will be tough...the OU game will be a better barometer for where the team is

Offense was pretty much butter today. Bazelak was calmer in the pocket and was extremely accurate outside of a couple throws. Defense bent but didn't break but didn't come away overly impressed with that group.
Either way, it's a solid win against a team this program should handily beat in year five of this staff.

Re: vs. Eastern Illinois (9/9)
They probably aren’t even an average FCS team but given recent history with the FCS a 23 point win is a good day.
Re: vs. Eastern Illinois (9/9)
Looking at the rest of the MAC, I’d say we did alright today. Buffalo and NIU with FCS loses, Akron currently on the ropes, and CMU with a close call.

Morgan State quite literally fumbled away the game. Unbelievable.

It’s a bad conference….seems to only be getting worse. The talent is obviously worse, but the coaching seems to be worse as well. A lot of the games are just mistake after mistake and you don’t see the innovation you used to see. There are several games every year with BG and other MAC schools where you wonder what they practice?

Money. Resources. Inability to retain talent with the portal. Why would anyone want to coach in the conference? Success is fleeting and elusive.TommyG wrote:Sat Sep 09, 2023 9:40 pm It’s a bad conference….seems to only be getting worse. The talent is obviously worse, but the coaching seems to be worse as well. I think we’re pretty close to seeing a couple of the haves in the MAC head to the AAC for this reason. I have heard about two, specifically, having conversations.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 10:05 pmMoney. Resources. Inability to retain talent with the portal. Bc only beat holy cross by 3, Kentucky only beat Eastern Kentucky by 11, Clemson was tied at halftime with Charleston southern, and even ohio st fans aren't happy with Youngstown (if we scored on the last drive we would have won by more). Youngstown wasn't in the playoffs last year in fcs. Fcs had a competitive week and it wasn't only against the Mac. Let's enjoy the win and hope the team continues to improve

Re: vs. Eastern Illinois (9/9)
Starting notes just after the 2nd TD
Great game so far
Solid 2 of 3 drives
Offense is night and day from week 1
Simple things, get the ball to Stewart, Keith and Fannin. The WRs are great but if you don’t have the time to get it to them, just go short. Easy peasy.
This looks like an offense that can compete in the MAC
Bazalek is pretty clearly the best QB on the roster. Probably the best QB to ever play at BG if not the MAC.
Ferguson is our best defender, what a stud. He has to be in an NFL camp next year. Well deserved
Just looked it up and Bazelek has 2 years of eligibility remaining. We are blessed.
This offense can be special if that line comes together
Bazelek
Stewart-Keith
Fannin
Hillaire-Ibrahim-Osborne
In this college football landscape anyone can move at anytime HOWEVER, this team only has 6 players who are in the last year of their eligibility and 1 other impactful player
On offense they have the chance to lose just Hilare-Ibrahim and Osborne at WR and LT Stewart
On defense Anders, Ferguson and Hardaman.
Lets go Loefler!
Easy fake punt. That wasn’t even close. SAD!
Who is Jalen Huskey and where is he playing? Dime? He is listed as the backup at CB but had a ton of tackles last week and the pick this week.
The 1-2 Punch of Stewart and Keith is great.
Bazelek is getting good timing with WRs
Overall great game. Next weeks I just hope no one gets hurt.

Re: vs. Eastern Illinois (9/9)
Toledo is talking about ramping up spending on athletics..given their financial issues, that seems foolish...I can't imagine they're doing that to stay in the MAC

Is this one of those posts to see if people actually read them? geez
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.
Re: vs. Eastern Illinois (9/9)
Globe is 100% doing a bit about Bazelak.
He seems like he’s playing well (much better than last week), but obviously not better than Matt Johnson, Josh Harris, Omar Jacobs, etc.
Hyperbole is fun. Lol. Glad to see you still lurking, rogue.

Re: vs. Eastern Illinois (9/9)
Well...lesser QB's like Erik White and Josh Harris almost beat OSU when they were at the top of college football...I expect Bazelak to keep us in the Michigan game...anything less will be a failure.
The MAC is a QB driven league....the best QB this program has ever seen should take us to the MACC and beyond. Anything less will be a failure
