I find it interesting that the coaches picked the Mavs for 5/6 while all the fans have them finishing second.

Coaches said: 3rd place finish. Swankler co-preseason player of the year, Swankler and Wozney both on the All-CCHA preseason team. Not bad.

I really think this team has the potential to be good in a wide open league.

The blue line will be young and I have questions regarding Stoever's consistency in net. Not as optimistic as the coaches are about the program, but perhaps the CCHA as a whole is simply going to be a crapshoot. I don't see it though. Have concerns about consistent goal scoring as well. Uneasy about the season to be honest.

Uh... Ben Shanahan (BG student, not associated with any type of news organization but is someone I would trust to know) is reporting that Swankler has left the program and is in the portal.

Please, nobody freak out about this until we see more reporting. I will post here if I hear anything more official.

At this point in the year, fairly certain that means sitting a year. Don't really see that happening.

I'm completely shocked and caught off guard, and I am hoping it's just bad misinformation.

Brad Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald confirms that Swankler is indeed in the portal...

I'm sick.

No one knows. Media day is tomorrow so I'm sure Eigner will be asked about it. My guess is a falling out somewhere with the coaching staff, unless he was contacted by another school and it's worth for him to sacrifice a year to move on. Either way it's a colossal fail by the hockey program.

It's embarrassing. Our best player, and the best player in the conference, deciding to leave us 2 weeks before the season starts. Just... ugh. Gross.

Brandon Hawkins part II.

He doesn’t have to sit a year, does he?

Believe so. Only can enter the portal and be eligible immediately in the event of a coaching change. Something reallll bad must have happened for him to think this is a good idea. The optics for the program are simply awful, no way around that. This is a bottom four CCHA team without him.

Fairly certain May 1st is the under grad cutoff with no penalty.

Welp. Forget what I said earlier about having some faith in this team. The season is over before it starts.
