at Georgia Tech (9/30)
Re: at Georgia Tech (9/30)
I read the Briggs article and was just disappointed that he'd write it.
How the eff is this schedule so preposterous? Sure, we'd all love to have 2 home games OOC, but that's just unlikely these days. I don't think we'll ever get the likes of Pitt or Indiana back to the Doyt...I'm not even sure the program should want to given the financial realities. Still, the schedule is not the issue.
GT is ranked #49 in the FPI. Sandwiched between Pitt and Minnesota...both teams we've beaten in the past 15 yrs. Now, I whole-heartedly agree that we're likely to get smoked by GT, but this isn't scheduling a 2nd blue blood program for money. GT hasn't finished in the top 80 of FPI since 2018 and hasn't finished in the top 25 since 2014. This is exactly the schedule we've always talked about. You should get 2 home games at least every other year by having the G5 matchup be home & home agreements:
1 total cash game that would be a massive upset to compete/win
1 G5 winnable matchup
1 guaranteed home game, likely an FCS team
1 power 5 team that is mid tier that we should hope to compete with and beat if we field a real program
It's Loeffler's fault that he's built a program that enters a game against liberty as 2TD dogs and 3TD dogs to GTech.

And that is the most embarrassing thing. A dirty team...never, ever has a place at BGSU. SL doesn't seem to have much control over his players....

The biggest problem for me was having ohio in week 4. I don't think it matters when we play them this year but I figured that was the main complaint. I don't think the out of conference schedule this year is that out of the ordinary and is the norm like you said. 2024 and 2026 we have 2 home games while 23 and 25 we have one home game. 27 should have two home games as well assuming we add an fcs team that year.
This team is talented enough to compete tomorrow and it's sad there's a good chance the second half will be irrelevant
Re: at Georgia Tech (9/30)
I don't pay much attention to future schedules, but you're right, that ISU game is a "good get" to bring them here. Maybe you're right that playing the favorite in your division between 2 P5 games is what he was saying is preposterous, but that's not the tone I took from the Briggs article. It was written to make it sound like Loeffler thought it was preposterous to play 2 P5 teams for money.fanatic13 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 11:08 pmWe have Iowa st at home scheduled for 2027hammb wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 4:54 pm I read the Briggs article and was just disappointed that he'd write it.

I have never been a fan of playing conference games early, I vastly prefer playing all of your OOC first, then enter conference play "where it matters", but sometimes that just doesn't work out with the scheduling. I just didn't think this schedule was that bad. Handle your business and show up to play every week. Sure, we have a tough early slate, but that could be balanced by a weaker stretch later. If we had taken care of business last Saturday nobody would be complaining about the schedule.

It's year five, Scot...this is supposed to be the championship season, right? Champions don't bitch about when they have to play conference rivals. It was a home game...Homecoming for crying out loud. The only thing "preposterous" about it was the way your team played
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: at Georgia Tech (9/30)
This season has played out how 90% of thought it would so far. He hid behind his 5 year plan as long as he could. Now we got to blame schedules. This schedule looks no different than when I started going to school here in the late 90s

Lol. Kickoff return to midfield and the first play is a bomb for a GT touchdown.

Bazelak looks like crap, then there's an undisciplined penalty for kick catch interference on the punt.
This one should be over by half.

GT goes right down the field and it's 14-0 a little over five minutes in.

Yeah we may have to fire coach on the tarmac
