WMU (vs. 10/20, @10/21)
Weekend series with the Broncos. They're coming off a win & tie against Ferris State last weekend, and are ranked 9th in this week's USCHO poll. This one might get ugly. It's Family Weekend so might be a decent crowd on Friday, the team needs all the help they can get.

WMU is coached by a former NHL assistant. Our suspended HC was an assistant here for almost a decade...our acting HC and his top assistant had collegiate experience well to the east of here.

And the coach before him was an NHL bench boss for the Kings and Blues.

I don’t see this team staying within 3 goals either game. Western isn’t super skilled but they will compete at a much higher level than BG. BG will be stuck in the d zone and on the PK the whole weekend.

BG has a history of playing to their opponents. The Augustana series looked like shinny hockey on a Wednesday night. A lot of that was due to the respect they have for Rose, they didn't push on net physically. The team actually looked the best the short time it started to get chippy. I wouldn't be surprised with getting blown out. Also wouldn’t be surprised with a win or two either.

Well it is nice they were so respectful of Rose. I'm sure Rose and his teammates appreciated getting two wins based on that respect. Sounds like this Rose is the type of leader a team lacking leadership could use.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 2:44 pmBG has a history of playing to their opponents. Speaking of leadership. Does BG have captains or are they suspended?

Posted lineups this past weekend did not denote any captaincy letters. Didn't watch close enough to see if anyone had a C or A.guest44 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 3:09 pmWell it is nice they were so respectful of Rose. To my knowledge, nobody is wearing a letter right now. Probably appropriate to not label anyone as a leader when the program is on fire. None of these kids deserves to have the spotlight on them for off-ice stuff, at this current time.

If we actually played differently out of friendship to the opposing goalie...we have way bigger problems with this group than alleged hazing

Rose wasn’t being nice out there. He had a little troll post on Instagram with some broom emojis, so it’s clear he got some enjoyment from kicking us around.
We weren’t playing differently from what we really are. We’re just soft, lifeless, and low on talent/coaching/leadership. Recipe to get crushed most nights, even in this mediocre league. It’s depressing to watch.

Guy just came off missing most of two seasons with a brutal injury. You're not crashing him hard. Even the freshman tried to avoid contact when they got close. Only reason he's not here is the complete disruption to recruiting it would cause (Stoever was gone if he came back).

So Stoever dictated whether or not Rose came back? Then proceeded to take a loss head to head. And Bowling Green changed the way they played because of sympathy over a former teammates previous injuries?

Guest you nailed it…you just forgot to mention the refs made us lose too. BG is always screwed by the refs.
If BG wants to get aggressive and turn this around fast, they need to call Mel Pearson (not a huge fan of his, but he will certainly get the program entertaining) or grab an assistant from one of the top tier NCHC schools. While those schools have bigger budgets and facilities are slightly better, most of those schools have a similar size footprint to BG. They also recruit the same kids that BG is failing to get here.
Bergeron gets this revisionist history as some big winner when he was here. The guy never won anything and had one season where everything broke perfect to get an at large bid. Then you hired his assistant like there was this top notch culture you couldn’t afford to part ways with. It didn’t make sense then and obviously is showing now.
Re: WMU (vs. 10/20, @10/21)
Pearson would turn it around quick, but not a chance in hell BGSU would have the stones to make that hire. This fan base will beg and plead for another alum of some form regardless of how mediocre they may be. Pearson would have the fan base furious.
I still can’t believe Stoever could essentially dictate what Rose does. That’s not Patrick Roy back there. He lost to Robert Morris and Augustana in back to back weeks. Meanwhile, the conference co-player of the year left 3 weeks before the season courtesy of the Tiki Bar fiasco. Piss poor leadership always starts at the top.
