Mike McMahon and the College Hockey News Twitter account have both posted that and announcement is expected today, and that Ty will be returning to the team.
Huge news.
My source tells me the three players involved will be suspended a few more games. Alcohol related. No criminal charges.
Additionally, my source confirmed that the Swankler theft allegations were true. He verbally told the coaches that he was going to "burn this place down" after he was caught. The hazing allegation and him leaving town are connected to that.
Swankler still needs to sit out this semester but is eligible to play on January 1, 2024.
Have confirmed that the Bowling Green Police Dept. closed its criminal investigation into the matter relatively quickly. No criminal findings were discovered.
The school discovered "code of conduct violations" during its investigation.

February 23-24 will be quite a weekend.
The next topic to speculate over is whether he ever suits up for Tech.

If it gets public, it's possible he won't. Right now there's no direct evidence available to do that, but several people connected to BG hockey have confirmed it. There are people within the college hockey community trying to dig into it. If evidence can be gathered from the right people, you may see something make the light of day.
Austen's PR campaign from the drop of all this seemed really sketchy. Now we know why.

The question I have now is how short of a leash is Eigner on. It was looking like this sped up the end of his tenure.
I think it's a question that can be answered sometime later this year given the circumstances. The team has been playing at less than 100%. Get those guys back and it's fair to say you can evaluate things then.

For anyone that wants to take the time to read, here is a link to the report on the findings, but some names and information are redacted.
I don't feel any better after reading that. Administratively, there are failures here. Not to mention a general awareness of what was going on with no urgency to address it.
Accountability here should not just fall on the shoulders of the players suspended.
No way Eigner survives this....unless they win the league. Outside of BG hire with a track record of recruiting is preferred.
Swankler may or may not play this season, based on the fact that Eigner is coming back. I'm guessing this will be followed up with some attorney action and limited to zero communication will still be the case regarding the situation.

Sent-Trib article noted DVDM is assuming additional oversight of the hockey program, along with mandated training sessions for the coaches.
One has to wonder if the Pat Fitzgerald saga at Northwestern helped to steer this in the direction it went. Some similarities in both situations.
This year is just a countdown to a reset. Clearly the ex-player was just throwing s**t at the wall hoping something sticks, but it’s also clear the staff doesn’t have much control over the locker room.
Elsasser and Eigner had no clue about “Rookie Day”. Both have kids firmly entrenched in BGSU athletics with one in the locker room. Piss poor leadership. Taking all the perks is the easy part. Leading is hard. It’s going to get harder when athletes have money on the table via NIL. That’s what so much of this is about. Hopefully, for the hockey program Elsasser is out mowing the intramural fields going forward.
BGSU should hire Barnes & Thornburg to do the Moosbrugger/Hughes era next. Subjects such as the baseball program, NIL policies, and all things related to Falcon Sports Properties.
Yeah pretty comical how Elsasser doesn’t recall any conversations at all discussing the alleged drinking. He was probably golfing when Eigner called him and just wanted to hang up fast to get back to his wedge shot.

Mostly likely with a member of the Powers family up on the green waiting. He learned from some of the best on how to take and play dumb.
