When you are on your home field playing a 2-6 opponent, you expect to take care of business and put a smack down on them. That was about as unimpressive of a win as you can get. Even worse, considering we may be without Stewart for at least a while.

I absolutely lost it there. And also when Loeffler called the timeout before their 4th down and basically gifted them a 4th timeout. The guy tries to be so damn smart

Went for the win.
I'm in favor of going for it more than not but I wouldn't trust this pass game to pick up 7+ yds vs a shot to make them need a TD. Although that largely depends on how confident you are in making the FG, I guess he's not real consistent at that length so it makes sense.
If you saw the previous FG attempts by our kicker in this game, you knew there was no way we would try a 44 yarder there. We tried a 50 yarder in the first half and it was wide left by 15 yards and barely made it to the end zone. And the short one to go ahead looked like my bladed wedge shots and barely got 15 feet off the ground. So yeah, going for it was the right call, but I still might have run it there instead of a pass.

I did not see those attempts, because Cavs basketball and Crew [playoff] soccer have usurped BG Football in the entertainment pecking order. Watching Loeffler coached football makes my brain hurt.

I flipped over to the end of the game when the other events were in hand/over and just thought that was an odd place to go for it. But yeah, if the PK can't be counted on from 44, I'd much rather go for it than punt. The weather wasn't conducive to kicking either; I thought that BSU kicker struck that late one well, and it was way short.

I watched Survivor at halftime and into the 3rd quarter, I get it. Lol

We obviously didn’t play well, but you’d rather win ugly than lose pretty. Win one of the last three and we’re bowling again. That would be a big accomplishment. Still not winning titles or where we ultimately want to be, but unquestionably in a better spot than we were 5 years ago.

Beat Kent.

For sure. I'll take ugly wins as well. From the little I watched BSU wasn't impressive, but a win is a win. There's something to be said for pulling out wins even when you don't have "your best stuff" as well.

Honestly, for me, there's not much they can do in these type of games to move the needle (again, for me). I need them to not get boatraced when playing Miami/OU/etc. It is nice that we typically hang with (and even beat) UT, but until the program can actually compete for division titles I find it hard to commit 100% to watching it. We still have a good shot at a bowl game though, so that should be the goal now.

I hope like hell Terion is ok, because he did NOT look good when he came off at the end. That could be a major monkeywrench in bowl eligibility.

There isn't a kicker on the roster that can hit from distance. Anaya is the most accurate of them so he's been the main guy. Had the Cards completed one more pass on the final drive for 5-6 more yards they would have tied the game. That kick landed just in front of the crossbar. Kid has a booming leg for a freshman. Perhaps in warmer weather he makes it.

Sounds like Stewart has a high ankle sprain, I'd highly doubt he plays vs. Kent. SL said they would know more today. With Toledo after that on a shorter week it would be best to sit him and roll with TK, Patterson, etc.

As Gibby said on the post game, the team found a way to win in spite of some very curious coaching decisions and a noted lack of execution on offense, sometimes that needs to happen in November. Kent will be an interesting game. They blew a big lead, lost to Akron and have nothing to play for the rest of the year but pride. Those teams can be dangerous if you let them hang around.

Moving the needle is essentially getting bowl eligible in back-to-back years which hasn't happened since the 2012-2015 run. It may sound like a low bar to clear, but it's positive momentum for a program that has experienced a lot of headwind since Dino left. As Gibby stated last night, the floor of expectations needs to rise after this season where it's not let's get six wins and get a bowl, but let's get eight wins consistently, challenging for a divisional title, and in the good seasons you're hitting nine or ten wins and going to Detroit.

We should have been up at least 21-7 at the half. We got the win, which is all that matters, but we needed put them away early. Let them hang around and it almost bit us in the ass.

At least I have a short 20 min drive next week at Kent.

100% agree wight Gibby on the post game comments. This is BGSU and 6-6 should NEVER be the goal.

we're a middle of the pack team in the worst conference in FBS football. I refuse to celebrate that

What I loved last night watching Ball State was that even though they're undersized and under talented, they kept it simple and were disciplined to a game plan. Then you watch BG and we're running end arounds with the TE on the goal line. I don't get why we keep rolling with this mixed bag playcalling, just lean on your strengths and occasionally mix it up.

Also Bazelak seems to have terrible field vision. There were some plays I just didn't get how he didn't see guys. Brown jerseys hard to see at night?

This is probably not what happened, but I actually did find last night’s jersey matchup to be hard/confusing to watch on TV. They wore black and white, we wore brown and white. Obviously we know we’re the brown team, but it was a weird one to view.

Bazelak has the shortest amount of time to throw the ball in the MAC thanks to mediocre OL play. That probably has a lot to do with it. A lot of passes are being called with short routes to get the ball off on time. Orth had a guy wide open as well last night on the play he tripped and fell.

I think Bazalek could be fine in a better scheme. I think he’s asked to do quite a bit. Little more time to throw and better playcalling and he could be an above avg to good MAC QB. The offense reminds me of the old John Wooden quote “Don’t mistake activity for achievement.” There is a lot of looks, motion, trickery but a simpler more efficient offense is going to be needed to beat UT and Western.
I’m not surprised they keep beating these terrible teams. The crazy GT game aside, they’ve yet to show they can go toe to toe with a good opponent. Still gotta beat the bad teams but I’m not sure BG is any better than 6th in the MAC

1. UT
2. Miami
3. Ohio
4. CMU
5. NIU
6/7 BG/WMU
8. EMU
9/10/11. Ball State/UB/Akron
12. Kent
