Re: vs. Chicago State (11/6)
It was loud in there. I wasn’t used to that. Unfortunately, my son hated the loud noise and we had to leave extra early. Time to buy some headphones and see if we can get him to wear them.
ROLL ALONG!!!
Re: vs. Chicago State (11/6)
That was fun.
I don't know if he gets as many minutes when Thomas is back, but I thought Hill was the most impressive guy of the bunch. His ability to get to the rim, and FINISH in traffic was something I haven't seen from a BG guard in a long time.
Agee was completely re-energized and clearly enjoying himself playing in a real basketball system. I agree with whoever said he looks like he's in better shape too. He was going his usual 100mph, but wasn't gassing himself in 5min spurts like he did last year. He could be a MAC stud, especially with Spurgin tacking on the bigger defensive matchups.
I found it interesting how often we doubled the point of attack and CSU never seemed to find an answer. Just good defense all around.
We definitely still looked a bit disjointed in how much Simon wanted us to run. We also shot quite poorly from 3 even though I'd say 20 of our 28 attempts probably classified as very open looks. This one was over 5:00 into the 2nd half. They had 21 at the half and were still sitting on 27 with 9:45 left in the game. Stellar defense and rebounding.

Watching on replay!
Some notes for Guest69420
I know what happens but we are down 6-0 with 2 minutes into the game and look every bit the Huger teams. Awesome that we are not that.
Hill with the 2 pter, led Juco in scoring and led us in scoring tonight!
Am I seeing ball movement? What is this?
16:04 mark and Phillip and Towns coming in
Love Spurgins game. He isn't athletic but he is athletic enough and always moving and playing smart
Interesting that Phillip did not start after starting the scrimmage.
The way they are moving the ball is putting tears in my eye.
Love how Hill finishes at the basket and battles for rebounds.
Agee with the nasty dunk. I love that guy. With a good coach and a big next to him. Ewwww, exciting times.
Defense looks good.
Hill and Agee are a great 1-2.
Phillip, Edwards and Humphrey all seem about the same player so far. Exctied to watch them more.
Anthony McComb! the lob!
Greer looks super raw but the best athlete on the floor. Same likely with Felt when he can play.
Great game. Deep team. Could use another big which might be Felt.

Agee reminds me a bit of Anthony Stacey

Agree with the mentality and fire.
Stacey had a touch/finesse part of his game that Agee doesn't seem to have.

It will be interesting to see what the rotation is like with Thomas back.
Also Felt. The big man rotation is perfect but you could use a 4th guy for insurance.

I use Loops ear plugs. As I have gotten older, loud environments really put me on tilt. A friend with similar issues told me about them. WOW. I can still understand everyone I am talking to just fine, but the edge of that background noise pressure is just GONE. And I can increase the deadening as needed in a couple minutes with a small insert in the buds.footballguy51 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2023 10:08 pm It was loud in there. I wasn’t used to that. There are other names in the game, but my Loops have done good work for me. I find them a lot easier to use than headphones, too.

Re: vs. Chicago State (11/6)
I was very impressed with what I saw -- especially defensively. And on offense, they looked like a college basketball teams that was actually being coached. Yes, it was obvious they weren't running as much as Simon would like -- he as much as said so after the game in an interview. But he also said defense was the most important thing to get right first...and that the offense will come. And he's correct.
There was nothing not to like about this opener. I sure hope the student body starts coming to these games more; this is going to be a very fun team to watch. It's a style I would think most fans (or casual fans) would enjoy. And if they do start coming out more, that place can turn into something very intimidating for MAC visitors.

Should've mentioned it but the student turnout was actually pretty good for a mid week opener against a non-descript opponent. Van der merwes efforts are already showing.Falconwriter wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2023 1:52 pm I was very impressed with what I saw -- especially defensively. No it wasn't a rocking mosh pit like so many games at Anderson, but the section was far more crowded than years past. And student support felt ahead of community support in my estimation

I had the same thought. It was announced that there were 390 students in attendance, and it seemed like a good number of them actually participated in the “Jersey night” theme. Hopefully those kids having a positive experience makes them want to come back and keep participating.hammb wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2023 8:00 pmShould've mentioned it but the student turnout was actually pretty good for a mid week opener against a non-descript opponent. I hope so. We haven't had much of a "sign culture" but there were some good ones. My kid got a kick out of the Simon Says ones...couldn't quite explain to him the "NOt the cougar I'm looking for", but I like to see that sort of stuff.mbenecke wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 5:08 amI had the same thought. Freddie & Freida hanging out in the student section was cool, but for those of us with kids, they do need to roam a bit as well.
The game atmosphere and student support will always lag behind on court success. But if they play an exciting brand of basketball, and win, those things will come. I do find it encouraging that we just spent 7 yrs with a coach who would only talk about defense this and defense that, yet Simon's first game was a better defensive performance than we saw in that 7 year span.

The women also had a decent turn out for a midweek 6pm start...1800 and change. Very exciting game
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
