Are you referring to what the university released or is there a different report? Link?

My takeaway from reading all that is despite violations of student code of conduct, the university punishment is overblown. If things were optional then why not suspend the freshmen as well for participating? Kinda feels like the university was making an example of Scardina and Fyten.

It's also interesting they brought in some guys who had a history with Swankler. Trying to appease him to stay and hoping those guys would straighten him up? Either way that's a bad idea when trying to build a roster.

I was thinking how much damage could he really do in 4 months up in Houghton and as such it'd probably work out. But I learned this weekend that he was sent home early from the VGK development camp. The dude couldn't even make it a full week out there. Good luck, Joe...

That would explain the transfer versus signing a pro contract.

This report being public, and Swankler's name being all over it as being an issue and trying to avoid punishment, could really ruin his future career. He says he didn't want to be a snitch. Well, this is actually worse than that.

unfalconbelievable wrote: Mon Nov 13, 2023 11:48 am Let's take this for what's worth regardless of anything else.

A student-athlete illegally recorded a conversation with a coach to bait him into saying something then releases audio. Student athlete gets off scott free and everyone piles on the coaches comments.

Have seen this happen several times and know coaches that when they meet with athletes phones is turned off and placed on the desk before the meeting even starts. Illegally recording is a problem at the HS and college level.....then information is leaked on purpose without any repercussions toward the person who recorded.

Not saying his comments are acceptable but recording and baiting people into comments are not good. In the court of law this would be known as obtaining evidence illegally and not admissible.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought Michigan was a one party consent state. So he can legally record their conversation so long as he participates. Not sure what that means if he wanted to use it in court though.

A pair of shoes? That's it? He risked his roster spot, his relationships, his reputation, his playing career... for one pair of shoes?

A pair of shoes and a (justified) one game suspension.

The dude started a fight in a handshake line as a coach. Wouldn’t describe him as a stand up guy.
You mean this fight in the handshake line? Nah, it's standard procedure for coaches to behave in this manner. Clearly you've never met him :-/

I was wondering what kind of a coach would take a chance on Swankler with all the uncertainty surrounding the investigation at the time. This answers that.

Sad that daddy has to fight battles for his son. Now we see where the entitlement comes from.
