The guys calling the game are doing a pretty decent job, but man… please, for the love of god, stop talking about the Toledo game.
Except doing everything they can to make sure Fannin isn't in a BG uniform next year lol.
Yes and yes on both counts. I was screaming at the TV for them to STFU about that game last week. Even Mrs. Freak asked "Why do they keep bringing that up??" Hell if I know. And yeah, let's shop Fannin to the highest bidder!! Garbage announcers....Do they get paid by the word these days? Shut up once in a while.
7-5, 5-3...and we should be 8-4, 6-2. But it is improvement and if SL can find a way not to lay a couple turds every season....Our D is soooooo much fun to watch. They just get after people. And the tackling has been much, much better. If only we had a dominate OL and Top MAC level QB. Next year it's the Motor City or bust. I had us winning 6-8 games this year and felt we had to win at least 7 to show we're on the right track. Those OU and MU games are total head cases...and of course last week we gifted those clowns up north the game. But losses at #25 Liberty and #3 Michigan were no shame at all.
Win the bowl game and 8-5 would sound good to me. Esp since we only had 5 home games this year.

Don't need to dig my expectations up, I thought we'd be awful this year. I'm pleasantly surprised that they actually did get better. The record isn't where we'd all like it to be, but it's a slight bump from last year, but more importantly this season didn't feel like it was flukey to get to the 7 win total. Last year's team was -118 in point differential. TO get 6 wins there was nothing more than dumb luck. This year's team is +34, that's a substantial improvement. Unfortunately the OU & Miami games burn in my craw a bit, but we competed against Toledo and mostly beat up on the dregs of the MAC. No point in discussing a coach change, no way it would happen, and even I'm not sure it should. I still greatly dislike his offensive scheme or hearing him talk, but he's done some good things as well. The defense's propensity to cause havoc and turnovers is fun.
Like Globe said, "easier to fix an offense". I might do a complete 180* on Loeffler if he scrapped his offense and brought in a creative offensive mind. The fact that won't even be considered is why I still don't like Loeffler, but I do think he is a better HC than OC. I wish he could see that.

Good point, Hammb. We could have easily lost 4-5 more games. Beat Miami by 4, WMU by 4, Akron by 3, Marshall by 3 in OT and Tsun by 7.

…which is why I am convinced that we are a large amount better this year than we were last year, continuing the upward trajectory trend to 3 straight seasons.
0-5 in the COVID-shortened 2020, 4-8 in 2021, 6-7 in 2022, now 7-5 (potential for 8-5) in 2023.
A ton of talent has the option to be back next year. If we keep this group together, we have a shot to win the MAC. Ohio and Miami replacing their QBs, Toledo might lose their head coach and a bunch of talent to the portal if Candle finally moves up.
This team once again had a chance to roll over and quit instead they played their best half. I'll take a 24 point road win every time
Not only did we outplay toledo but after the first quarter and a half we outplayed liberty on the road. If Bazelak doesn't have what is now a pretty had scratching game we beat an 11-0 team

The offense wasn’t fun but it was smart. Our best players were at tight end and Rb and we focused on them. Our line didn’t allow us to do slower developing plays to wideouts so we got rid of them.
It’ll be interesting to see the bowl matchup. You’d think whoever they play will at least be a competent opponent. They lose, all the same doubts will be out there. Outside of the 1 GT upset, team just got Ws against bad opponents. Western game was dominant, but that was the first time we’ve seen that.

I agree. The only other team we beat with a winning record was Eastern Illinois.
To be fair, discrediting the wins as playing bad teams is kinda silly. The rest of the MAC is mostly garbage every year now. Why even play the games if we can’t enjoy winning, regardless of opponent?
Toledo or Miami gonna give back their trophy next weekend just because the MAC is bad?

It has been a while since I've actually enjoyed BG football. I'm certainly spoiled since my fandom started in the Urban Meyer days. Hard to get hyped about the current state of the team and MAC.

Yeah. To me that is a whole different conversation. I absolutely recognize the big improvement this year, but I still didn't enjoy much of the season (GT game was awesome)
Apologize for the MAC being bad? Course not, but if it doesn't impact your ability to enjoy this team (and their wins) then I guess you're a better fan than I. I obviously prefer beating crappy teams vs losing to them but I don't really enjoy it. I watched about the first quarter of that wmu game and flipped over to NBA basketball. If we were winning 10-11 games every season I also wouldn't watch or enjoy it that much. Just like I can't fathom how OSU fans watch those games every week when 9 of their opponents have no shot to win.
This isn't just a BG issue though. It's college football on general. It's become an overwhelmingly bad product. In leagues like the Big10 there are 2-3 teams that can compete and a lot of nobodies. In the MAC it manifests itself in 7-8 members of the conference looking like glorified HS teams; any game those teams win is just unwatchable slop.
Kudos to BG for not being one of those bottom of the barrel teams anymore but for me I DO need the MAC to improve greatly for me to truly enjoy BG football.
You don’t have to apologize for beating bad teams but you do have to beat the better teams as well to really show the team is a contender.
They still have a lot to prove….are they better? No doubt.
Just don’t be fooled by beating teams that stink.
