Quick Lane Bowl vs. Minnesota

Post by jpfalcon09 »

Discuss. I like being the only MAC program getting a Power Five opponent.

It’ll be at 2:00pm on ESPN on 12/26.

Absolutely going to be there this time around.

Checking to see if I can snag a flight up for less than an arm and a leg. Would love to be there.

I love the matchup. Getting a P5 team in a bowl for a MAC school is a huge plus. I was there when BG lost to Pitt in Detroit in a close one. It’s been a decade since BG won a damn bowl game. Getting a win here would be huge and would be a fantastic way to cap what has turned out to be a decent season. A win here would for sure be the icing on the cake.

Great bowl game for BG. BG attendance for this game is always great. The venue is comfortable. We get a big 10 opponent. It’s later in the bowl season so it gives the team even more time to heal up and prepare. The area around Ford Field is fun. And I assume this will save the athletic department a considerable amount of money. I’ve seen BG play Every time they’ve been to Ford Field, and every matchup was fun and competitive. It’s obviously not a sexy location, but it gives this team a great opportunity to finish this season with a win in front of a large BG crowd. SL does a lot to talking about moving this program’s needle so here’s his opportunity to beat two P5 schools in the same year.

Good location for travel but I wish we were playing a team better than 5-7. Always nice to play a p5 school. Let's end this season on a high note and win 8

I saw PJ lose to BG in K-Zoo, then we won in MN. 3 in a row! He’s full of himself. Loves the camera.

Love it. Ford Field is the best stadium around, IMO. Cleveland should have built a stadium like that but they were too stupid. 3 1/2 hour drive from Akron and wouldn't miss it. Need to get this win to get a jump start on the '24 season.

No s**t. Building outdoor stadiums on the coast of a lake in this climate is asinine.

Ford Field is a great venue and for my money it'll always be my favorite bowl destination for BG. I just hate that they play these bowl games on weekday afternoons. Wish it was an evening or weekend timeslot though. I love going to the games in Detroit, but not enough to use a vacation day for it.

SIdenote...my completely out of touch with reality teacher wife (I love her so) reaction, "You have to work the day after CHristmas?!?" Ummm....yes, it's called Tuesday...

The Lions do a great job with the bowl game. Plus, this is ranked as one of the top-five bowls for gifts/swag. JBL bluetooth noise-cancelling headphones, $175 Amazon gift card, backpack, commemorative football, and a bunch of clothing. Last year they did a fowling event at the Fowling Warehouse in Hamtramck. I think it's a good experience, plus it saves the athletic department money on flights.

This is the only bowl the department can even break even on…it’s the best case scenario

It looks like Cole Kramer will be Minnesota's QB in the bowl. He's played in 21 career games but mainly in a reserve role. The bad thing is for BG is - he's a dual-threat QB and loves to run the ball. And we all know how much dual-threat QB's have hurt us. Even in this bowl last year we were hurt by a dual-threat QB when New Mexico State's Diego Pavia hurt us with his legs by scrambling for yardage and even more costly, he kept plays alive with his legs. We had NMSU in 3-and-long and time and time and time again he bought time with his legs and kept moving the chains and it ended up costing us in the end. Kramer actually played vs BG two years ago and scored Minnesota's only TD of the game on, you guessed it, a 19-yard TD run. Our coaches and players need to be prepared for him running. We need to make this guy throw the ball to beat us, he's only 8-14 for 103 yards and 2 TD's (no ints) for his career. They do have a tremendous WR in Daniel Jackson (2nd Team All-Big 10) who has made some tremendous catches. They also have a pair of All-MAC skill transfers (both were 2nd Team All-MAC guys) from Western Michigan (RB Sean Tyler, WR Corey Crooms). They also have a stud DB in Tyler Nubin who was 1st Team All-Big 10 on defense. They also have an All-American kicker in Dragan Kesich who is 22-26 on the year including 3-4 from 50-plus.

I think a lot of people have the 26th off as that is the working day for Christmas. Also the only game during that time so all the bowl fans will be watching. I'll take our bowl over Toledo's they are playing on the CW network and up against fsu georgia game
