Re: 2024 Offseason
Timosciek is in the portal as well, as a tight end however. I'd expect him to wind up somewhere in the FCS.
BG and the G5 need to embrace the fact that they're development programs for the P5. We should be selling it. Come here, you will win, we'll develop you, and you can move onto bigger and better things. It's the new normal, may as well lean fully into it.

AND they should be completely fine with a guy like Husky going out and measuring if he can get NIL money and coming back if he can't.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:51 pm Timosciek is in the portal as well, as a tight end however. I'd expect him to wind up somewhere in the FCS.

We love you, want the best for you, go get paid, the door is open.
Does anyone remember the Broden timeline? It's not so bad they leave but if they don't leave quickly it's harder to plan.

Anyone in the portal is ineligible to play for their former team.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:35 pmYou can enter the portal and keep playing I think.BGSU33 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:29 pmEspecially with Huskey now leaving. Our DB's unit was loaded and these guys were all underclassmen. We were set for years, and hell now, we won't even have them for the damn bowl.
And Jones wasn't starting I don't think so maybe with Huskey leaving he stays.

Re: 2024 Offseason
I'm guessing we're going to have to move Ferguson back to CB. He's been playing Nickel this year but played CB for us the previous two seasons (got hurt and was lost for the year in each season). He'll have a couple weeks to prep for the bowl. Probably our best option now at that spot.BGSU33 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 2:29 pmEspecially with Huskey now leaving, these two were our #1 and #2 boundary corners. $hit man. I have seen people enter the portal mid year. Why would that be a rule when they are allowed to return to their team? I am not saying i disagree or you are wrong but that is a dumb rule.

You can rescind a portal entry and go back to your former team (if they'll have you) but if your name is in, you're ineligible to play for anyone until signing a NLI.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 3:02 pmI have seen people enter the portal mid year. Ivy League seniors were allowed to enter the portal early because they don't allow graduate students to play athletics. Anyone else could only enter the portal if there was a coaching change prior to December 4th.

I guess there is a difference between entering the portal officially and announcing you are transferring.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 3:04 pmYou can rescind a portal entry and go back to your former team (if they'll have you) but if your name is in, you're ineligible to play for anyone until signing a NLI.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 3:02 pmI have seen people enter the portal mid year. Re: 2024 Offseason
Be willing to bet the guys who announced their intent to transfer early probably didn't play much for their respective teams.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 3:08 pmI guess there is a difference between entering the portal officially and announcing you are transferring.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 3:04 pmYou can rescind a portal entry and go back to your former team (if they'll have you) but if your name is in, you're ineligible to play for anyone until signing a NLI.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 3:02 pmI have seen people enter the portal mid year. Re: 2024 Offseason
Toledo’s Finn is planning to hit the portal. Bad news for the MAC but great news for us.

Re: 2024 Offseason
Brett Gabbert returning for a 6th season at Miami. He’s been starting since his first season there, which makes this pretty ridiculous, but Miami is likely the team to beat in the MAC next season.

Re: 2024 Offseason
Some of these guys are going to wind up back at their respective schools. Over 1,000 players entered the portal today alone. Roughly 10% of all scholarship players. Not all will find a new home. Especially QBs. It's kind of ridiculous.

Re: 2024 Offseason
Probably the least surprising news ever, but NCAA president Charlie Baker is essentially proposing a FBS subdivision where athletes are directly compensated by their schools, to the tune of at least $30K per head. Would officially separate the haves from the have-nots.

Re: 2024 Offseason
No way we could afford that. Time for the MAC to either join the FCS ranks or close up the programs entirely.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:15 am Probably the least surprising news ever, but NCAA president Charlie Baker is essentially proposing a FBS subdivision where athletes are directly compensated by their schools, to the tune of at least $30K per head. Re: 2024 Offseason
It would amount to about $2.5m-3m a year in player salary. A select few schools in the MAC could probably swing that. BG is not one of them right now unless there is a secret hidden megadonor out there.mbenecke wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:16 amNo way we could afford that.
