My prevailing thought, and some have seen this is on X, is the G5 establishing transfer fees somehow for players the P4 are going to want. Only way they could maintain some sort of relevance and offset the costs, outside of jacking up the cost of playing said teams on the road, which isn't likely to happen. Unfortunately it would probably require players signing some sort of formal contract, waiving certain rights, and the G5 basically offers traditional scholarship compensation, and if you're good enough you have the opportunity to get your bag at the next level. Don't really see how else it would work.BillyLP wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:21 amIt would amount to about $2.5m-3m a year in player salary. A select few schools in the MAC could probably swing that. BG is not one of them right now unless there is a secret hidden megadonor out there.mbenecke wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:16 amNo way we could afford that. Time for the MAC to either join the FCS ranks or close up the programs entirely.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:15 am Probably the least surprising news ever, but NCAA president Charlie Baker is essentially proposing a FBS subdivision where athletes are directly compensated by their schools, to the tune of at least $30K per head. Would officially separate the haves from the have-nots.

Kurtis Rourke is in the portal. Last two MAC Player of the Year winners appear to be on their way out.

Seeing on Twitter a number of offers/interests to transfer DBs and OLs. About what I expected to be our focus.

Guest will be happy to know BG has shown interest in Holy Cross' QB.

He was awesome but that is surprising as he just has 1 year of eligibility left I think.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 2:31 pmGuest will be happy to know BG has shown interest in Holy Cross' QB.
When we were bad in the beginning of the year I thought maybe he and his coach could be a package deal.
Last year I added interest to transfers in my spreadsheet but I don't think thats worth it yet.
What do you search for to see the potential recruits? Just bowling green or bgsu?
Re: 2024 Offseason
Damn man, with Stewart not only out but his status probably up in the air too, this one hurts. No way are we going to be able to hang onto the players we can't afford to lose.
GO BG!!!
Re: 2024 Offseason
Nature of the college game now. MAC is a feeder league. If our players are good, they’re going to leave. We don’t have the money to keep them.

Re: 2024 Offseason
The major programs of College football have been dealing for awhile with Bowl games outside of the CFP being completely irrelevant because all the top NFL prospects sit them out. We've fought it forever with losing our coaches before bowl games, but now we won't even have players.
If the bowls were ever really relevant, that relevance is at an all time low. Yeah, it's supposed to be a reward, but with so many players changing teams or bolting for the NFL, it's pretty clear that it's not a reward that actually motivates most people.
And no, I don't blame the players at all. If you're going to change schools, I'd be doing it right away so I'm gone by Spring semester.

Was plannng on going to the game but not now. Just not the same team. They have ruined college football. A free education is enough. 200k often if you go out of state. Losing interest in this nonsense

Re: 2024 Offseason
Keith is a grad transfer. He got his degree and will be a Falcon. Hope he lands somewhere good.
Choosing not to go to the bowl game because of a few guys leaving is silly. Still 80+ guys who deserve a big crowd.

Agree. The players who plan to enter have to do it now otherwise the positions may fill up. It’s not their fault the portal opens before bowl season begins.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 8:33 pm Keith is a grad transfer. He got his degree and will be a Falcon. Hope he lands somewhere good.

Re: 2024 Offseason
It's madness that the guys are forced to do offseason activities while the team is actively preparing for a bowl game, but it's not their fault. They didn't choose the calendar or the timeline.
I'm going because I want to watch Bowling Green beat Minnesota. Do I think the chances are lessened with every good player we lose? Of course. But I'm still gonna heckle the hell out of PJ Fleck and cheer our guys on, no matter who is on the field.
Speaking of, do we know who the home team is in this game? I'm wondering whether we will be in brown or white for this one. We were the home team last year.
