It's madness that the guys are forced to do offseason activities while the team is actively preparing for a bowl game, but it's not their fault. They didn't choose the calendar or the timeline.
I'm going because I want to watch Bowling Green beat Minnesota. Do I think the chances are lessened with every good player we lose? Of course. But I'm still gonna heckle the hell out of PJ Fleck and cheer our guys on, no matter who is on the field.
Speaking of, do we know who the home team is in this game? I'm wondering whether we will be in brown or white for this one. We were the home team last year.
As always, blame the NCAA for never carefully or thoughtfully planning any of this out. Ideally the portal should open at the conclusion of the CFP final. That's the end of the calendar season. Let the portal be open from then until national signing day. Portal closing and NSD is the same day. Then you can start to prep for spring ball and the upcoming season.
No idea about the home/away jerseys for the bowl game.
It's hard because the NCAA has to abide by the academic calendar. Guys can't be transferring in January and February - they'd be showing up 2, 3, 4 weeks late for their classes at their new school. That's a real challenge in all of this. Unless you're changing the way school calendars work just for the sake of athletes, you either have to let them transfer in halfway through an academic semester or separate academic considerations from college sports entirely.

Not an easy fix.
Maybe kids enroll over the summer instead of the spring? Just adjust their enrollment dates. They can finish out the winter semester at their current school. NCAA is simply killing their own product the way it's currently constructed. More than half the bowl games will feature a team with a backup QB. They're even more pointless. You certainly don't adjust everything to accommodate student-athletes.

Every other sport, the portal opens after the NCAA Champion is crowned. Football doesn't crown an NCAA Champion.
That's true. The CFP is just the ESPN Invitational.

Anyone tracking Minnesota defections?
Their starting QB is gone.
They have eight guys in the portal. 3 RBs, 2 QBs, 1 WR, couple OL.
RBs are down to Jaison Patterson, Jamal Johnson, Pasean Wimberly, Chris Edmunds for the bowl game, assuming Terion isn't playing. Big opportunity for someone to shine.

I've heard another RB may hit the portal before then. Overall, I think the BG staff must have a pretty good sales pitch so far. Aside from Keith, the defections have been pretty close to what I expected. I thought Oladokun would be gone and I was sure Fannin would be one of the first in there.
Apparently a couple of our guys in the portal have heard from some pretty big programs, too. Wouldn't be suprised to see some moves again to Big 10 and Big 12 programs.
