@ Akron

Post by BGSU33 »

THIS is going to be the game where BG learns about itself and where it really stands in the MAC. We all know the horrific stretch BG has had vs Akron over the better part of a decade-plus years. And I can assure you that if BG starts slow and sluggish like it did vs Siena Heights and EMU, there will be no second half comeback for a win if that happens vs Akron, it’ll result in a blowout loss. Honestly, I can’t visualize anything but at loss going into this game. The current win streak has been fantastic. It really has. But things are about to get real. If BG ever hopes to win a MAC Tournament in our lifetime (it’s never happened), the Falcons are going to have to beat teams like this on a consistent basis to get over that hump. Because these are the type of teams you have to beat in Cleveland to get to the NCAA Tournament. I’d love to see it happen, but with our short bench, injuries, slow starts and putrid track record vs Akron, I just can’t see anything but a loss here, and probably a painful one. Hope I’m wrong but I’m betting I’m not.
GO BG!!!

In summary.

-Akron has been better than Bowling Green almost every year for the past 15 years (BGSU was coached by Orr or Huger most of those)

-He believes the MAC preseason favorite Akron and MAC’s highest rated KenPom team will likely win at home vs. a Bowling Green team ranked over 100 spots behind in KenPom and selected 6th in the MAC.

Akron will be a double digit favorite in the game.

Yes, it is very possible that Bowling Green might lose this game, and it wouldn’t require a bold prediction or I told you so post after the fact.

It’s a national TV broadcast on Friday night. 9:00pm on CBSSN.

I don’t expect to win. Would love to see us make it a game and have a chance at the end.

Pumped for this one. The fact the Falcons scored as much as they did despite 3 point struggles on Tuesday has me pretty optimistic

Big game early in MAC play tonight. Would be huge to go on the road and pull an upset.

It will be fun to see us have bigs that should be able to put up a fight against Freeman down low. The last time he played BG he had 21 pts and 16 rebs.

I think we will look pretty small against them on the wings though as they start 6'3", 6'3", 6'8", 6'7", 6'9" with all of their bigs being pretty mobile. If they target our bigs to start and get them in foul trouble it could get ugly quick. They tried taking advantage of height match-ups almost every other possession against NIU in the first 10 minutes.

It will be fun to see how Simon tries to scheme this game up.

We'll be at the Cavs game so I won't catch any of this one unless maybe stopping at the bar after. Cavs should be over before the BG game.

Would be a huge road win for us, be interesting to see how they play.

I'm a bit worried about this game especially without towns. Regardless it will be a great measuring stick and who knows I could be surprised in a few hours

Gonna be a tough one tonight....the last 20 years have been a disaster when we play Akron. 5-34 since 2004.

Fall behind tonight and it will get ugly.

Good start on the scoreboard going into the first tv timeout leading 7-3. The announcer claims we were picked near the bottom of the conference but we were picked sixth.

Two fouls already for Agee

Up 29-17 (i think the scoreboard is broken) at the 8 minute timeout and going to the line for an and one. Playing perfectly and shooting lights out so far. Team 100% came to play. Freeman for Akron has 2 fouls as well

41-36 BG at the half. The two quick fouls on Agee inside the first 3 min sucked but I'm impressed how the team has rallied without him against a tough opponent.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH - because it's on CBS Sport Network, I cannot actually watch. And we are beating Akron at the half. WE were up 14 at one point according to live stats.

Nice to see we didn't have a slow start. And holy heck did we shoot lights out from the field!

Akron turned it up a notch after the 8 minute timeout but Hill kept the Akron runs to a minimum. Thomas went off early to help build the lead. 2 of 7 on free throws so far plus a missed one and one really going to need those the second half. Akron is a great rebounding teams and without Agee it's really showing. Overall we are playing fantastically and look like we belong
