OK, so here's the deal. I'll wear my lucky shirt, '84 will wear the orange shoes, and mbenecke will, unfortunately for him, have to skip the game tonight. Anybody else in?

I have tried EVERYTHING to make this team win. Including switching where we normally sit, having a beer vs. not having a beer, and wearing different socks/underwear to the games. I think we’re just cursed. LolTalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 11:27 am OK, so here's the deal. And again… this team loses at home against a mediocre team. Just no skill, no coaching advantage, no progress throughout the season. Embarrassing program.
We won’t win anything until we see a new staff installed. Period.

Every single person but 2 in that building saw Stjernberg's stick break on the game winning goal. You've "given up" on this team 4 times this season, and yet you keep coming back whining.

What do we do well? What is our identity? What direction is the program heading?
I appreciate the optimism, but I don’t know how to find it within myself to keep the faith with a bad coach in his 3rd straight losing season. We’re now 7-15-0 on the year, after going 15-19-2 and 15-19-3 the two years prior. 4-6-0 at home this year after going 9-11-1 and 7-7-0 in the years prior.
We have a fanbase that is absolutely starving for success, and we’re going to stay hungry until we can answer my first few questions. When we do something well, when we have an identity, and when our program has a direction to it, then we’ll be alright. But this is absolutely unacceptable play for 3 years running, and I think it’s reasonable to question what we’re doing.
Go Falcons. Please figure it out.

OSU isn’t very good; this answers why they’re last in the B1G. They’re better than we are but not by much. Stoever played well. Their second goal was soft but he stoned a couple of breakaways. We scored two on the PP and didn’t give up a shorty. Even though they had us on our heels to start the third, their third goal was BS. I don’t know why the refs swallowed their whistles on that one.
They use the ice better than we do, more spread out, creates more time and space. Our lack of skills showed on the PP. We’d work it around and finally get a clean pass to the weak side only for the shooter to tee it up. Gotta one time those. Connor Ford would have had at least two.
It was a fun evening. We played pretty well, we outhit them, we scored some goals, they gave a sell out crowd something to cheer about.

I would agree with almost all of this with the exception of one part. We DON’T have a fan base starving for success, we have a fan base that loves hockey. If it was starving for success it would have run Eigner out of town in October, never let Buddy Powers back in the locker room, and frankly would have demanded more two years ago. Instead it’s about the fantasy of the past and Scooter is its most valuable asset. The fans could demand so much more but that will require a complete overhaul of what matters and who gets a meaningful opinion. The CCHA isn’t doing it any favors either.

It was a very fun evening. We were there at 5:30 and there was already a massive line out front. The energy for games like this is insane, and it’s a testament to how much hockey means to this community that we can fill the building even when we’re struggling.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 11:03 pm It was a fun evening. We’ve lost 6 straight against OSU, with sweeps each of the last 3 years. Eigner has never beaten them in his tenure here. The last time we beat Ohio State was an 8-2 drubbing in Columbus in October 2018. More than 5 years ago.
I think we deserve a more competitive team, and changes need to be made for that to happen.

I was at that drubbing in C-bus. Baylis scored a shortie while we were two men down. Disco Dan was the only other in program history to do that. OSU went through all 3 goalies. You could hear “B-G-S-U!” over the o-h-I-o during Hang On Sloopy. Great night.

And this fan base has resentment for the coach who provided its only success in 25 years.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 7:41 am I was at that drubbing in C-bus. Which comes first 20 L’s or Swankler’s return to BG?
Re: Buckeyes (@ 1/5, vs. 1/6)
I was too. That game (and season) was pretty awesome. Fun time to be a fan of the program.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 7:41 am I was at that drubbing in C-bus. We should do everything we can to get back to that level. The community deserves it.

Agree with alot of this. We accept to much as fans. A reset is needed. I'd be cautious about all these recruits being announced only because there's potential that they aren't playing for the staff that recruited them and then they start the process over.guest44 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 5:55 ammbenecke wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 10:39 pm What do we do well? In 11 weekends of Hockey we still haven't beat the Football Win total.
The largest crowd next to last night was dollar night. Not a sign of a program trending upward.
Someone mentioned Swanklers return, I'll believe it when I see it. He may not even make the trip. They can beat us without him and nothing good comes with him on the ice. By then a game suspension won't mean anything to the team for fighting and that weekend could get ugly.

I will be surprised if Swankler plays that series.
Is the Sentinel too broke to pay an adult to cover the team.

It’s must see for all the wrong reasons. It’s more attention to a former player who doesn’t deserve it, and more negative attention for a program needing a complete reset. Bring back Kevin Gordon not some college kid who wants to be liked by the players and coaches.
