Lots of good coaches still out there. I am sure they will look elsewhere. But if they didn't we could find someone pretty easily I'm sure.

I understand that we could find someone that would eventually be a good coach, but Loeffler leaving would mean all those experienced guys we were excited to have back probably wouldn't stick around anymore. Which means the 2024 season is probably a wash regardless of who the coach is. Just the reality of making a coaching change in the portal era, on our level.

Is that what happened to Buffalo?

They were 3-9 this year. Not a lot to take from that roster.

Ours on the other hand...

Bill O’Brien is leaving the OSU OC job to take the Boston College HC job.

It closes the loop for now, but OSU needs an OC at the top 2 candidate names I have seen are Toledo HC Jason Candle and UCLA HC Chip Kelly.

Chip Kelly is taking the OSU OC job, so the UCLA HC job is open.

Minnesota’s PJ Fleck is mentioned among the targets. The carousel continues to spin.

That's hilarious to me. Chip must have either hated UCLA, hated being a head coach, or both.

So a B1G HC is leaving his school to join another B1G school as an assistant.... truly bizarre

UCLA was trying to run him out of town despite 8, 9, and 8 win seasons the past 3 years. He saw the writing on the wall, and he got out of it.

He has a lot of history with Ryan Day. He was Day’s OC when Day was the QB at New Hampshire 25 years ago, then Kelly had him on his staff with both the Eagles and 49ers. Makes sense for him to want to reconnect with Day in Columbus, even if the optics are weird.

Plus Chip has never liked the recruiting aspects and has been pretty outspoken how awful NIL and the portal have made that part of it. UCLA (especially in the big10) is one of those paycheck jobs where you wait around to be fired. You're never going to win enough there for them to be happy. He got out before getting fired.

And bama just lost their OC before he started too. Anybody with NFL options is not going to put up with this college FB landscape.

I get leaving before you're fired, but willingly taking a $4mm paycut is wild to me. I know he already has more money than he knows what to do with, but 4 milli is 4 milli.

Less stress to deal with is probably worth the drop in pay. The NCAA's inability to adequately get NIL under control is going to ruin major collegiate athletics. Story yesterday from Locksley at Maryland that his third string RB told him he wanted $100K or he was going to transfer. Some of the old school guys aren't going to hang around...right, wrong, or indifferent.
