vs. Michigan Tech (2/23-2/24)

Post by mbenecke »

Falcons (13-16-1) vs. Huskies (12-13-6) this weekend at the Slate. Friday's Senior Night game will begin at 7:37pm, with Saturday's 1984 National Champions 40th anniversary game coming at 7:07pm. Both games will be available on Flo, as always.

Just a monumental weekend for hockey in Bowling Green. We're in a 3-way tie with Minnesota State and St. Thomas for 2nd place, and Bemidji is just 2 points ahead of us in 1st. Tech is also lurking just 5 points behind us, as well. Huge opportunity to take another step towards home ice, and possibly put ourselves in position to play for the MacNaughton next weekend.

Fans are asked to wear orange to Saturday's game, so if you're going (like I am... gulp), wear your orange and make the building a hostile environment.

Go Falcons!

Email from Falcon Kid's Club yesterday has Fridays game as "Friends theme," and Saturday as "Senior Night and 1984 Returns." Safe to say, before one of the games, the seniors will be honored.

To me, Senior Night should always be the final regular season home game. It was always Saturday for as long as I could remember, but then it was a Friday once or twice and now I never know what to expect from year to year.

They have officially changed it on the athletic website. It was listed as Friday with the Friends theme, and Saturday was going to be the 84 team reunion and BG City Schools night, but now senior recognition is listed on Saturday, as well. My guess would be that they swapped senior festivities to Saturday when the time for Friday night's game changed because of basketball being selected for ESPNU. Gotta love the logistical considerations that go into this stuff. Lol

Tim Rappleye says Garry Galley will be in town for the weekend. That'll be good to see.

I will be attending my first game in way more than a decade on Saturday. There's also going to be a reunion of the old Section A guys (Section A Screamer) and the Section H guys (Buelah's Bugle), with many old timers making the trek back home from several states away.

Should be a hoot. Hopefully we can revive some of the old cheers. If we can remember any of them in our old age that is!

CHN confirms no Swankler this weekend. What a bummer.

Coward behavior. Obviously I don't want to see anyone get hurt, that would be crazy talk. But...He deserved to hear the boos coming his way. Kid needs a little accountability/discipline in his life.

I will be chirping and booing with full force this weekend. Hope the kid hears me through his TV.

Folks, he's been out with a knee injury for the past few weeks. He was never going to make the trip and is likely done for the season.

I knew that because I had seen that here, stick taps to whoever had that info first.

Still doesn't feel right, though.

The Tech Hockey Guide guys (Tech's version of BGSUHockey.com) have a Discord server set up which I frequently participate in. They "broke" that news a few weeks back and I shared it here. Honestly, if I hadn't been reading their stuff I would have had no idea he was hurt or how badly. The challenge is that injuries are kept close to the vest across the college hockey community and in this situation that can appear rather devious and nefarious.

The dude's got a bum knee, he ain't necessarily ducking us. I, for one, am glad he isn't making the trip. Nothing good could come from it. Unfathomably, we're in a race for the hardware and having 2 guys suspended for 2 games wouldn't help.

This. It makes this weekend so much more "normal." The games will be easier from a mental standpoint. The boys can just go out and play, and not worry if they'll get their chance for some much needed justice without hurting the team (i.e. taking a penalty doing so). It's Tech-BG, in BG. It's still going to be a rough and gritty series like always.

THIS........

Because no matter what the score or who was winning there was going to be some bad blood and the better TEAM was going to get hurt by this because of post-game suspensions which could of hindered our end of season push. It was going to rear it ugly head at some point during the game. Now it's a matter of just winning and no side circus to worry about.

I agree that it helps on the ice, for sure. Fans will want their pound of flesh, but the players need to focus on the task at hand. We are in a title race, have to stay focused on that.

I think they're still going to be a little extra juiced for this series, though. Salvatore Evola liked a few tweets calling Swankler out this morning, so you know it's been on their mind. I think they are going to want to beat anything wearing black and yellow this weekend, and I hope they channel that into playing two really good hockey games.
