I feel like the job is pretty attractive, but you’re gonna have to convince someone to come in here and rebuild the program a bit. It’s not like 2019 where whoever the hire was would have the ability to win right away, with an NCAA tournament roster and culture already installed.
In the age of the transfer portal, the right coach isn't that far away from being successful immediately. Program has good depth players. Just missing a top line. The ability to consistently score goals usually leads to better defense as opponents don't take as many chances.

Agreed. A coach with the right connections will be able to bring in some talent.

Obviously, remains to be seen what happens with the current roster. The seniors were expected to return. Does that change now? Then, the impact on recruiting. How many kids slated to arrive this year back out?

Peter Mannino? He's helped resurrect Colorado College.
What I had actually heard about Wayne in 2019 was that he wanted the job but Bob Moosbrugger told people privately that he thought Wayne was “too boring” to hire for the job.
WHAT? Too boring? What sort of criteria is that? Cue Guest44 with one of those same old, same old rants of his. Actually, don't bother, we all know them by heart and half of us have him on block anyways.
Too boring...Moosbrugger & Hughes the gift that keeps on giv....I mean taking.

I also heard a similar story.

I'd have reservations about hiring him, though. He hasn't dealt with allotting scholarships and recruiting players consistently at the level we want. The guy has been a winner with what he's had, though.

The program needs to move away from the alumni nepotism. If DVDM is serious about improving and elevating this program, he finds a young voice with connections to strong junior hockey programs so we can start recruiting talent that can actually make a difference.

From what I’m being told it comes down to MSU’s assistant, Wilson and Bylsma

Bylsma is 35-13-8 this year at Coachella. He would frankly be an idiot to take a step down to college hockey. He may easily find himself back in the NHL in a year or two.

No thanks to Wayne, for reasons already mentioned on here.

Bylsma's making $500,000? Is it even that low? With no recruiting, NIL, scheduling, etc. Yeah, he's not coming.

If there was ever a time to hire Dan, 5 years ago coming off a tournament appearance would have been it. I don’t think it’ll ever happen, but it’s one of those things where you have to kick the tires, just in case.

What's the timing on all this? Any idea how long they have to post the open position before they can make an announcement?

I don’t know the rules, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t have a coach until after the Frozen Four, and if we don’t see assistant news until after the first weekend in May, after the AHCA convention.

List of candidates per Mike McMahon's opinion. He views this opening not much better than that of Lindenwood given available resources, so consider that for what it's worth:

Peter Mannino - AHC, Colorado College
Jason Herter - AHC, WMU
Dave Shyiak - AHC, St. Cloud State
Ben Syer - AHC, Cornell
Adam Krause - AHC, UMD
Bill Muckalt - former AHC, Michigan
Anthony Noreen - Tri-City, USHL
