Is it 7 days? There won't be announcement until the new hire's season has concluded.

Frozen Four concludes April 13th. I'd imagine something is announced around that time, especially if the selected candidate is with a team still alive in the tournament. With the portal and such, wouldn't make any sense delaying the announcement unless it's due to something contractional.

USHL playoffs start April 15th, same day the Portal opens for everybody. Makes going after a USHL coach a bit of a challenge, or he ends his season early to come here.

Given his track record with men's and women's basketball, my sense is Derek is going hire someone within the college ranks.

From McMahon's insider update this afternoon:

The swiftness of this decision suggests that AD Derek Van der Merwe made up his mind a while ago.

Bowling Green was specific in its statement that the move was made due to on-ice performance, which was to deflect away from the hazing investigation. Still, I believe that played a role, even if the university won't admit it.

Per a source, there was a feeling within the team that the administration was "standoffish" after Eigner returned from leave in mid-October.

The writing was on the wall.

Fine, it played a role. But if instead of going 0-4 to end the regular season then bombing out of the playoffs in two, he goes 3-1, finishes in second behind Bemidji and we sweep the Lakers at home this past weekend. I'm not saying today's result would be different, but that's why I discount Swanklergate and lean towards performance.

Eigner may have been exonerated of any crime by the investigations, but he did not come out looking good. It doesn't surprise me at all that the administration thought less of him when he returned.

Saying the writing was on the wall is quite a stretch. If they were so intent of canning him, why did he make it past Christmas?

Fairly certain the playoffs were "win or find a new home."

I’m still surprised this happened. I guess BGSU is actually trying to change the culture. Give DVDM credit for that.
I’m guessing that DVDM wanted him gone in the Fall, but knew the pushback would be much more if done at that time. Instead, a final meltdown proved what we all kind of knew anyway and made this much easier. What a massive cleanup job DVDM has on his hands.
Let’s now cycle back to 2020 and ask Rodney Rogers what in the hell were you doing? Cut baseball, reinstated baseball, gave Hughes a promotion, and gave Moosbrugger a 4 year contract extension. That was a year of clueless and costly decision making. Next on the block is softball and possibly gymnastics. Moosbrugger (Hughes was calling some shots) has cemented his place as the worst AD in school history. A historic number of firings in a two year span.
