MAC QUARTERFINALS: vs. Central Michigan (3/14)

Post by mbenecke »

It’s time.

Our Bowling Green Falcons (19-12, 10-8 MAC) will take on the Central Michigan Chippewas (18-13, 12-6 MAC) in a quarterfinal contest at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, OH. This BG team is looking to do something no team has done in program history - win the MAC tournament.

We need 3 wins in 3 days, and it starts against a team that swept us in 2 regular season contests, though both previous matchups extended past regulation.

The quarterfinal game will begin at approximately 1:30pm, or about 30 minutes after the Toledo vs. Kent State game finishes. All 4 MAC QF matchups will be available to stream on ESPN+.

Let’s go Falcons! Get to 20 wins on the year and push through to the semifinals for the first time since 2019.

This team has slopped it up twice against us. Let's hit some damned shots and send them packing. I watched both games and felt like we were the better team and lost in OT & double OT. Both games we had chances to put them away before letting it go an extra period.

CMU is very comfortable playing OT, so let's finish them in regulation this time out.

It's time to beat this team. I don't think they're that great and didn't realize they had an incredibly easy schedule this year. Only played toledo, Akron, and ohio once each. Hopefully both ot losses give our team a chip on their shoulder to finish them this time.

Hill is the best scorer in Cleveland and he has to show up. I know we need the role players as well but there are times he can take over. At some point we're going to need him to carry us through a cold spell or respond to a run. He's the something we have that nobody else does

Give us a grand total of 2 extra points in the entire season, and we are 12-6 and CMU is 10-8 instead. It's REALLY hard to beat a team 3 times in a season unless you are significantly better than them. They are not significantly better than us. Let's get this done!

Vegas agrees we are the better team. They have us as the 5th highest odds to win the tourney at 14:1, (oddly Kent is 4th at 6:1). Central is 7th at 22:1. They really sputtered down the stretch and are pretty banged up. Let's get it done Thursday!
LONG LIVE THE MONGOOSE!!

I’m a homer but it feels criminal that Agee isn’t first team. Can’t think of four other players that made a bigger impact in MAC play.

Freeman is clearly the best big man in the league. Hill was the only scorer in the top 6 in the league whose team made it to Cleveland.

But at 13 ppg, getting Agee 1st team was always going to be an uphill battle.

And giving the 5 seed, a team that is clearly a step below the top contenders, 2 people on the 1st team just generally doesn't happen.

I think your last line has it right. I love Hill & Agee, but one on the 1st team and one on the 2nd team seems appropriate to me. I think most of us probably agree that Agee is the emotional leader, Agee does the dirty work, Agee was the better defender, and Agee was perhaps the MVP of our team. But Hill led the league in scoring and was instrumental in our early season MAC success.

It could have gone either way, but as we all know scoring often time takes precedent over all the other things.

I'm just very thankful that we've got 2 of the top 10 players in the MAC (probably 2 of the top 7), and I hope like hell we've got both of them here next year as well.

Toledo about to lose to Kent State...62-57 with 18 seconds left

Beat CMU, you’ll be rewarded with the lowest seed in the tournament in the semifinals. Kent obviously beat us this year, but can’t ask for a better opportunity than this.

Get a win, BG!

Two keys to the game for are what team can settle in first and free throws. Neither team has experience here so we'll see who has jitters and who plays to their game. First game both teams were awful at free throws and that hurt us at the end of both central games

Bye bye toledo

Still can’t shoot and Phillip needed the hook early. He had three terrible plays.
