Utah St. job open
Utah St. job open
Don't be surprised if Simon's name is mentioned for this.
Re: Utah St. job open
Matt Norlander of CBS is reporting that Toledo's Tod Kowalczyk is actually in the mix for this one. Should be interesting.
I think Simon makes sense. Todd grew up in Michigan and went to CMU, but he spent the last 20 years out west before this past season.

Re: Utah St. job open
Simon said he had BG on his watch list because he wanted to be near his and his wife's home towns and relatives that lived in Michigan. But money talks and he would likely listen. Still I think there are probably more mid major experienced coaches that would be in the mix.
Re: Utah St. job open
Utah St. would likely pay in the in 1-1.3mm range for the right guy. I can't see Tod being a serious candidate. Late 50s, never made the NCAA, never coached west of the Mississippi. Simon actually makes a ton of sense, but I think Utah State will go for someone with a more established track record. I'd look for Eric Henderson of South Dakota St. to make that move.

Hard to fathom that Simon would move back out to Utah after only 1 year. Even for a little more money.

He is certainly on the radar for this job. Going to be an interesting few days.

My brother is close with his family and he has heard the same.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: Utah St. job open
Utah St Men’s basketball now follows him on X. He is certainly one of the main candidates. Bryce Drew (Grand Canyon) and former/retired Weber St. coach also in mix. If offered Simon is gone in my opinion.
Re: Utah St. job open
I definitely think he would take it, too. And I wouldn't fault him for it. It's just how things are now.
Until MAC schools seriously invest in their programs and start paying on par with other mid-major leagues, we will not be able to compete or hold onto anyone.

And the industry knows how difficult it is to win here. Historically speaking, it’s a known dumpster fire administration. BGSU could sure use that 483K they paid Huger to go away.

Re: Utah St. job open
From what I’m seeing or hearing, things are not looking good for him staying. With that being said, there are some other good candidates involved he will have to beat out. I will also say that I don’t blame Coach Simon at all…to have an opportunity to get a good pay upgrade, a packed/crazy arena every night in a growing, beautiful part of the US is an opportunity that only comes up so often. Will be an interesting 24/48 hrs.
Re: Utah St. job open
I don't know what Simon is making right now, but you'd have to imagine his buyout will be significant if Utah State has to pay BG the 4 years left on his deal in full.
