Given that he's already a candidate elsewhere and they should be very good next year if he sticks around (assuming he puts together a strong roster), I would imagine so.

I don't think he's still here in 2 or 3 years.
If he sticks around one more year and gets us to the tournament, I could care less if he leaves. He'll be a legend in my eyes forever.
DVDM appears to have done well with MBB and WBB. How long does he stick around if he does well with hockey and another round of MBB (and FB?)? That would be quite the resume.

I'd agree that he has done well, but I'm not sure the results are there to merit a big jump to another school just yet. I think they will be, but it takes a while for the full picture to come into view as an AD. I think we've got another 2-3 years with him.

Just think of the baseball situation alone. Moosbrugger, a BGSU baseball alum (quit), cut the program. Less than 4 years later you have the most prominent alums involved and they are in 1st place. DVDM has done really well, but like I've said atleast 10,000 times, the Moosburgger/Hughes tandem was as bad as you could possibly get. Bottom of the barrel.

I don't think anybody ever thought (or should have) that Simon was going to be here more than 3-4 years, tops. The fact that a prominent job in Utah of all places came open a year later is what sucks, but is what it is.

This is BG. At least 175 or so D1 jobs are going to be considered a step up from here. Maybe more than that. If you are going to swing for a legit up & comer we're always going to have to worry about losing them. Simon's track record for success, his social media presence, his name being prominent in coaching/mid-major circles. All of the reasons we hired him, now work against us.

The hope is that DVDM put the right buyout language in the contract that we financially can better ourselves when he goes. And the hope is that DVDM can put his short list from a year ago to use to find us a new coach on the same track. Is what it is.

I don't think DVDM will be here for the long haul either, but if he can fix the lazy nepotistic dumpster fire of a department before he goes we'll all be better off.

I agree. He has looked closely at coaches and is cleaning that up , but needs to look HARD at his administrators and clean that up.

Those types are much harder to get rid of. You don’t have a win loss record to point to. If they did the record would be similar to that of the softball program. It’s slowly happening though. Let’s just once again thank Holy Cross for a game changing decision to hire him. They both Moosbrugger and Hughes would likely still be here if they hadn’t.

I’d say it’s likely Simon is gone. Utah St men’s basketball now following all of the assistant coaches also.

Very unfortunate if so. Program needs some stability and Simon was a great hire.

If not Utah State, Fresno State is also in the mix. I think it’s less about stability, just keep seeking coaches who aspire for more. Find the next guy just like Simon if he goes. College basketball is a one year cut throat gig. Treat it as such.

Good point, and the buyout money should allow DVDM greater flexibility in attracting a quality candidate.

I think he is off to Utah State…frustrating, but good for him! I really hope we go back to what seemed like a good pool of candidates we had last year.

Not that it’s preferred, but I much rather be a program winning 20 games and searching for a coach every 1-2 years than a program winning 10-14 games every year.

Since he was a coach in Utah just last year and had many of the same assistants, were they following him/them back then? Can you tell when they actually started following someone?
