Interesting move. You don’t see many CHL coaches going to D1. Which I guess begs two questions.
1) Apparently the fences between BG and Williams have mended over the years.
2) Lends credence to the belief CHL players will be allowed into the NCAA TP very soon.
I honestly never thought he'd never be interested given his entrenchment with Hockey Canada and the CHL at large. Either he wants a new challenge and sees the NCAA as a pathway to something bigger for himself, or perhaps with the allegations he faced back in August, there is some burn out.
If the NCAA/CHL transfer model gets approved, I think it sets BG up really well for the future given his connections.
Great to see Jerry York was involved with the search. What a guy to have in your back pocket.
Definitely looking forward to the press conference tomorrow. Assuming Dennis will be remote. Hoping this is the first step in bringing this program back to relevance.
“I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to go back and be a part of the Bowling Green hockey team and community,” Williams commented. “It was a tough decision. When it came down to it from a family standpoint, it’s a place that’s still very dear to us. My oldest daughter Emerson was born there. I’ve spent seven years there. We felt it was time to embark on a different challenge and opportunity, and it has nothing to do with my feelings towards the Everett Silvertips, [owner] Mr. Bill Yuill and COO Zoran Rajcic.”
Last part indicates perhaps some friction in the front office at Everett?
McMahon posted in his blog that Eric Lang and Adam Krug were the other two finalists for the job. There were rumors that Lang wanted time to visit campus before making a decision, and BG was unwilling to accommodate with the transfer portal opening for underclassmen next week. The expectation is you'll see some names from BG in the portal.
McMahon also notes that Louis Mass will likely be joining as an assistant. Played with Dennis from 97-01, and was an assistant with him in Everett for four years before taking a job with the Barracuda in the AHL as an assistant.
In terms of guys leaving/not leaving, I gathered this tidbit.
Guys who have “liked” the Instagram post announcing Dennis Williams as head coach, possibly indicating their support of the hire (and therefore maybe sticking around):
Ben Doran
Eric Parker
Ethan Scardina
Brayden Krieger
Breck McKinley
Quinn Emerson
Gustav Stjernberg
Ben Wozney
Cole Moore
Brandon Santa Juana
Jack Blake
Doesn’t feel like asking to see the location you’d be moving to is an unreasonable request, especially from someone who is an east coast guy. What i find interesting is that Lang was actually considering a move here.

Interesting to see a quote from Wayne Wilson as well. I think that means he wasn't in consideration?

Unless...him wanting to visit was going to entail a much longer period of time (delay) than they were willing to wait (maybe for fear that they wouldn't get one of their other top choices because of waiting?)

Maybe Williams was their top choice and he wanted the job, so they didn’t want to even bother with the visit.

I was told they wanted someone in place before underclassmen can enter the portal. Sounded like Lang's request to visit would have interrupted that timeframe. Also think Williams was the top choice anyways so it made that decision a bit easier.
