2025 Non-Conference Schedule Qustion

Post by ZuluWarrior »

Have we last a game or two from our future schedule for 2025?

We only had 3 games scheduled so far, so we had an open slot already.

And then UMass decided to join the MAC, so that game likely dropped off the schedule for that reason. The 2025 schedule will need to be redone in order for UMass to be included in conference play.

So, kinda. We now have 2 open slots for 2025 - unless we go the route of playing UMass as a non-conference game anyway, or the MAC decides to go to 9 conference games.

We seem to have had a trip to Minnesota planned in 2025 at one point. Fbsschedules.com was listing it as of last August, but the site removed the game in November.

The 2028 home game with Liberty has now been moved to 2025 as well, so the 2025 nonconference schedule is set

08/30 - Lafayette
09/06 - at Cincinnati
09/13 - Liberty
09/20 - at Louisville

I'm a fan of both additions. Liberty is a top tier g5 and cincinnati is a beatable p4 team. 4-0 all time vs cincinnati all coming from 1990-1994

UC was a non factor in football until they leveled up in the early 2000's...much different program now. Would hesitate to think any game with them would be winnable

Cincinnati went 3-9 last year and is predicted be 14th out of 16 this year in the big 12. I say winnable like georgia tech and Minnesota were. Still a big underdog but on the right day it could happen. Relative to someone like michigan, penn st, or Tennessee where we hope we're healthy at the end of game

I love next year's non-conference schedule. I know there are reasonable arguments to be made in favor of it, but I personally have never been a fan of playing FCS/1-AA teams. I like that we have a couple of G5 teams coming in that should make for good, competitive games. The road games against P4 schools are within reasonable driving distance and they are not against top 10 national programs where we would run the risk of losing by laughable scores. Sure, we're not likely to win them but it's not impossible if the stars align, we play nearly perfectly, catch them on a bad day and all the breaks go our way. We also weren't favored to beat Pitt, Purdue (twice), Minnesota (twice), Maryland or GA Tech to list some notable non conference wins over the last 20+ years. I would put next year's opponents more toward the category of those teams, rather than teams like O$U, Notre Dame or top tier SEC schools where the only possible outcome of playing those teams is that we get our brains beat in.

We all know the landscape has changed and is continuing to tilt things more and more in favor of the haves and away from the have nots and making wins less and less likely against the power conferences, but as long as we are still a member of the FBS/1-A realm, then 2025 is the kind of non-league schedule that I'd like to see us play.

Lafayette is an FCS program. It's Lafayette (PA), not Louisiana.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.
