6'7", 265, guard handles and excellent 3 point shooting.
Why is this guy D2?
Can he guard a corpse?
If he can, he's exactly the kind of player we need to find, bring him in, he excels for us and heads off to a P5 school - after taking us to the dance first.

Leaving Towns to man the 5. I'm happy with that. His mobility at the 5 gives us some scheme options. Hopefully this guy can defend even a little.Flipper wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 4:03 pm Looks like a stretch 4...

I wonder if Felt will ever be able to suit up.
Re: Offseason 2024
I think he was D2 because his game is unique. I love the fit with Simon and how he wants to play and ways Simon will use him. He was a highly productive player & high school scorer on good SVSM teams. I believe the staff is still targeting another center and taller wings who can shoot. I do know they’ve reached out to both McMillan and Butler, both productive guards at Central Michigan last year. McMillan tore us up down the stretch in game at the Stroh.
Re: Offseason 2024
If felt is good to go we have 5 bigs that we can use. Towns, Johnson, youseef, squire, and felt. It will be nice to have that depth for once in the front court. Still need to add to the wings and maybe a true backup point guard
Re: Offseason 2024
Johnson became a starter as a senior at SVSM after coming off the bench the previous two years. Averaged around 12 a game his senior season. That was Malaki Branham's junior year at SVSM, and they were a good bet to win the D2 state championship if covid hadn't canceled the tournament.
After SVSM, Johnson played on Spire Academy's post grad team in '20-'21. Then played a year at a juco in Illinois, Parkland College, before going to Wheeling where he spent two years. This should be his last year of eligibility.

It’s hard to know for sure with the extra covid years but verbal commits shows him with 2 years of eligibility left.

Re: Offseason 2024
I think verbal commits does not update their classes until closer to the season. For example they show Thomas as a Jr though I am pretty sure he is a Senior next year. Everyone listed as a Sr. is gone and most long gone.JohnFloyd4Life wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 2:16 pm It’s hard to know for sure with the extra covid years but verbal commits shows him with 2 years of eligibility left.

Yeah it’s confusing. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of those four years described above didn’t count though.

Johnson looks like a football player. He also has the build of a slightly shorter Kenrick Perkins or Glen Davis. I want to watch this guy just have his way down low and then shoot the three for fun.

Re: Offseason 2024
One thing I noticed from his video is he shoots the three a bunch, has a good passing eye, and doesn't drive to the hoop but instead resorts to fadeaway shots. His first step isn't very quick, so he won't be a drive to the hoop threat, but he's a decent scorer. If they can develop that first step a bit more, I'd say he's got potential to be VERY dangerous.Flipper wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 4:03 pm Looks like a stretch 4...

Re: Offseason 2024
HE looks like he has better handles than some of our guards do. Against other bigs with less than great lateral quickness, he might well be able to get around them. And if you close on him too hard, he obviously has no issue putting it on the deck, going by you, and making the rest of your team deal with playing 5 on 4 for a moment.footballguy51 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 2:37 pmOne thing I noticed from his video is he shoots the three a bunch, has a good passing eye, and doesn't drive to the hoop but instead resorts to fadeaway shots. I wonder if that's where his assists come from?
