Why, Browns? Why?

Former spRocket Chester Taylor signed an offer sheet and will likely play for the Browns next year. While he has the ability to be a standout back, it doesn't turn my stomach any less to have to pull for a UT "grad". Not only that, but it moves the Browns a step closer to just straight releasing William Green, and getting something between absolutely nothing and a used kicking tee for a troubled, yet still full of potential, RB.

To make this relevant to the BG football forum, Taylor would be the first player from UT to ever play for the Browns. Bowling Green, in addition to giving the team their color scheme has had nine players DRAFTED by the Browns:

Jack Woodland and Bob Schnelker (1950), Jack Hecker ('56), Gary Sherman ('63), Tony Fire ('66), Honester Davidson ('70), Mark Miller ('78 ), Kyle Kramer ('89).

Seven more former Falcons have seen time in Cleveland as free agents:

Gerald Bayless, Ed Bettridge, Josh Harris, Shawn Potts, Dan Saleet, Derek Schorejs, and Stu Tolle.

I like this move from a Browns standpoint. Chester has the potential to be a starting NFL back. He's looked really good in Baltimore in spot duty.

It is definitely tough to root for the UT grad, but right now I'd settle for ANYTHING that helps the Browns.

That's how I'm looking at it. He's shown signs of getting it done, and could really give a 1-2 punch with Suggs that Green wasn't really showing regularly (and with half the "miscellaneous problems".. hell, less than half!)

As for the Mel Long thing, I guess that's what I get for taking my information from a St. John's grad and one time Rocket fan...

How does the addition of Chester Taylor do anything for Josh Harris' chances of making the team?

RB Emerson Cole (toledo) played for the Browns from 1950-52.

LB Tom Beutler (toledo) played for the Browns during the 1970 season.

OL Andy McCollum (toledo) was on the practice squad during 1994, didn't see game action though.
