@ Mercyhurst (10-4-10/5)

Post by mbenecke »

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

Falcon hockey is back, and it’s a new era. Our boys will play their first series back under new head coach Dennis Williams this weekend at Mercyhurst.

This weekend’s games both start at 7:07pm, and will be available to stream on… FloHockey. Gotta love that.

Our team this year is a lot of the same guys from last year, plus a few freshmen and transfers in, so I’m very curious to see what has changed with an offseason program with Willy in charge, and how much one guy can make an immediate impact. I’m planning to give him plenty of time to turn this program back into a winner, so I won’t overreact too much to the ups and downs this year, but I’m looking for some signs of improvement as the year goes on.

Here’s to a new season. Let’s go Falcons!

Good to see these game summaries are back.

I don't know what to expect from this team. The "experts" have us stinking it up for the better part of the season and have Mercyhurst rated a lot higher than us. As bad as we've been, are we really a bottom half AHA team? Regardless, Willy gets a lot of leeway this season. Just show me improvement from last year, especially on D and special teams.

My Flo subscription renewal is due the day before the RIT game. So close...

The experts use numbers to back up their predictions. The numbers last season obviously weren't the greatest. Without the gigantic distraction this season and new energy from Williams, these first few series should be a blast to watch. Maintaining that level all season will be a challenge.

No expectations will make for an exciting season, and potentially a dangerous team if everything aligns. My only hope for this year is to see systemic improvement in all three zones, they're hard on the forecheck and not allowing easy chances in front of their own goal. The rest will take care of itself. Just glad hockey is back.

As I pouted out of the Doyt on Saturday to yet another home disappointing football loss to go home and watch an unbelievable georgia/alabama game. Someone in our group said those people have to be on such an emotional roller coaster they are losing their minds.

My response was one time in my life I want for my alumni to be in a position to where fans can lose their minds in the success, there's only one sport that it could be done in.......unified response Hockey.

Last year was such an anomaly in terms on team results, culture, coaching, you name it. Too much outside influence to really grasp what they could do on the ice. I'm not going to be surprised if we win and win early. Willy wins and knows how to build it within.

Glad hockey is here and don't worried about anything shameful walk back to the car from the Doyt.

I'll be driving to Akron this evening ahead of the football game, will try to get in via stream in the car. Beyond stoked that hockey is back.

Thought about it, but my son's birthday is Sunday and we're having a party in the morning. I'd prefer not to be a zombie lol.

I didn’t pay for a month of Flo to watch, but Jaden Grant just put BG up 1-0.

Anybody watching?

Watching. We are definitely hard to the puck. Momentum has been with us but we take a dumb penalty after the period whistle.

Quinn Emerson is a forechecking monster. Killed the penalty.

2-0. Power play goal. Great pass from O’Hara to Waters on the back door.

2-1 on a rush just after their PP ends. Moore left a tasty rebound for the taking.
