@ Western Michigan (10/17)

Post by mbenecke »

On Thursday, October 17, our Falcons (2-0-0) head to Kalamazoo to take on the Western Michigan Broncos (2-0-0). This single game will begin at 7:00pm and will only be available to stream through NCHC.tv.

Western swept Ferris last weekend to open their season, and they have been a high quality program for a good streth of time now, so this is definitely a huge challenge for us. However, it's also an opportunity, as we haven't beaten WMU since October 19, 2019 - a streak of 4 straight losses.

Go BG! Beat the Broncos!

Reality check forthcoming. Western looked good in their first two games. One thing we have going for us is the game is taking place during Western's fall break so the Lunatics may not be at full volume.

First test of the season. Full faith Willy will have the guys ready to go even in the event of a loss.

Gameday is here. Red Wings play tonight too so going to need multi-screen action. Didn't catch any of the Mercyhurst series so looking forward to seeing this group in action for the first time.

I failed to mention it above, but Western Michigan is ranked #17 in the country in the most recent USCHO poll. So this will certainly be a big challenge.

2 weeks later, I'm not sure much will look like the Mercyhurst series. Quite frankly, I'm not sure what to expect at this time. I thought for sure there'd be more than the 7th D changed in that series. The exhibition games, there were some things/combos that looked really good, and some that were just not up to it. The second and third on Sunday showed the absence of the 3 captains line for sure.

I'll be at Lawson tonight. Having seen Western at home against Ferris last week, I'd be ecstatic if we won but happy if we can a) keep it close and b) play hard for the full 60 min. Level set those expectations.

Won't be surprised if either of these two things happened. Willy will have them ready.

There needs to be an established bar/restaurant that has all Falcon Hockey games on, at least the away ones. With no radio anymore and you need multiple conference subscriptions to watch which is ridiculous. Quarters, Brathaus, Downtown, SamBs, heck they probably waste more beer on a weekend then subscription would cost. Plus, you might actually get people in for a beer or two or a meal to watch the game. Fresh start with a new coach, great time to do it.

A day pass for NCHC TV is $17. That seems fairly easy to recoup in a night.

How much do I know? Looks like the exact same lineup as Mercyhurst with O'Hanisain as the 7th D.

All the boys not in the lineup are looking sharp in their suits and ties.

And Lawson is almost empty.

Really good first 4 min. Went right at them. Made a couple mistakes but recovered nicely.

Innocent looking play leads to a snipe and we’re down 1-0. Rats.

Poor gap control at the blue line, backed off and it looked like Moore had trouble picking up the shot.
