Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
Re: Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
I don’t think BG could afford what McElwain was asking for. That being said this was a hire you couldn’t miss on and Moosbrugger struck out big time. Guy shouldn’t be making the next hire.
Re: Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
Couldn't afford McElwain? Fair enough. Vince Kehres would have taken it for less than 500K

Re: Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
Kehres would have been just as risky IMO. D3 to FBS is a huge jump. Leipold is probably the only exception. Vince was smart to take the DC job at Toledo and get his feet wet in FBS.

Bowling Green is a 10.5-point favorite this week.
Re: Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
Scot Loeffler is 24-39 as a head coach. Scot Loeffler is 0-2 in bowl games. The standards are so low you went from defending weeknight MAC games on Facebook to s**t talking about a 24-39 coach?
Re: Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
McElwain was good immediately at CMU, and they have fallen off a cliff their last 3 years. He wouldn't have built a long-term winner here. Not that Scot has either, but I will take steady improvement over striking while the iron is lukewarm and having the program in bad shape for the next guy.
Very funny to bring up a 3 year old thread, though. I love the bickering on here sometimes.

Agree, MB. We complain (rightly so) about Loeffler being late to the NIL/Portal party, but he beat out McElwain by a mile. As sure as I say this, CMU will win by 50, but I know the folks in Mt. Pleasant aren't super happy with the last few years.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

Imagine the celebration in 2034 when BGSU beats Robert Morris in conference and Loeffler gets to .500. I hope he pulls up this thread if we are both still alive.

Neither one has been a success in the MAC...arguing that our coach sucks less than their coach is a sure sign of a moribund program

It's also the tiniest hill to die on.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: Jim McElwain or Scot Loeffler
Speaking of hills, I've been meaning to ask people this - what was the hill behind the Doyt/at the golf course called when you were in school? I had always heard it referred to as Bill's Hill, but I've been seeing recent posts calling it Mt. Jerome, and I need answers.

I've only ever heard it referred to as Bill's Hill, but I have no idea on the origins of that name.
It's most famous moment was the 2003 UT game when some very eloquent, (probably a Creative Literature major), etched a message in the snow about our opponent that day.

It was Bill’s Hill back in the 80’s.
